Schumacher, Betty Marie (Kiltz)

Betty Marie (Kiltz) Schumacher passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023 at Laclede Hospice in Webster Groves, MO with family at her side.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin, with whom she enjoyed 73 years of marriage; as well as her five children Carol (Larry), Linda (Wayne), Cheri (Jacob), Paul (Amy), and Karla (Kevin); 10 grandchildren (Jason, Kellie, Jessica, Kristin, Kyle, Kelsey, Brandon, Nicholas, Rachel, Alex) and their spouses; and 11 great grandchildren.  Betty was born on December 13, 1929 in Ottawa, Illinois.  She grew up in Naperville, IL and Plano, IL and attended college at Western Illinois University.  During her life, Betty moved to many places with her husband and family; residing in Illinois, Arkansas, Kentucky, St. Louis, and El Paso, TX before ultimately returning to St. Louis in 1983.

Betty loved to cook, sew, and shepherd her children in busy lives.  She was active in churches throughout the many moves, contributing to choirs, Sunday school, youth groups, and youth mission trips.  She was an active Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for all of her children, promoting leadership and character development.  She was a storyteller and story-reader, always zealous in sharing stories about her growing years and family, and reading countless children’s books to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Betty’s life was always focused upon being an example of leadership, courage, and morals for the three generations of family. She provided financial support to the grandchildren to advance their careers, post college graduation to excel in their chosen fields of education, law, medicine, science, and business. They are an admiration source for their grandmother.  Upon Alvin’s retirement they both traveled to many countries and exciting destinations all around the world (literally).

Betty will be remembered for making and decorating Christmas cookies with all generations.  She is recalled for her affection toward family, friends, and church members.  All would describe her as the most kind, loving, and compassionate friend you would be blessed to know.  Betty will be looking forward to reuniting with family after passing, and is now united with her lovely little girl, Nancy Beth, who passed so very early.

Visitation and services will be on October16, 2023 at Southminister Presbyterian Church 10126 East Watson Rd, Crestwood MO 63126.  Public visitation from 4:00 PM to 5:20 PM with Memorial Service at 5:30 PM, followed by a reception hosted by the family.  There will be an interment and graveside family gathering on October17, 2023 at 11:00 AM located in Sunset Memorial Park 10180 Gravois Road, Affton.
