Alan Smith

In Loving Memory

Smith, Alan R.

August 6, 1943 - October 11, 2024

81, entered into Heaven, surrounded by his family, on October 11, 2024.

Alan leaves behind his children, Steve (Judy) Smith, Jenn (Brian) Raymond; grandchildren, Madison and Jaxson Raymond; brother Harold B. (Bert) Smith. He was our dear father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and friend. He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Maria Smith (nee Wolf); parents, Aubrey and Ila Smith; siblings, Mary Taylor, Sue Ford, Don Smith, and Ramona Heddy.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Alan grew up in Webster Groves and worked at his parents’ confectionary store. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1961. After high school, Alan became a police officer for St. Louis City, then enlisted in the army for eight years, including two tours in Vietnam. While overseas, he proposed to the love of his life. They were married in 1969. During his military career, he was stationed in Germany for a year and a half with his family by his side. After his enlistment, he and his family eventually settled in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his education at Tarkio College, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He began working for the Department of Defense. In total, he had a 30 year career with the federal government, and retired in 1994.

Alan enjoyed computers, researching and loved to read. His favorite book to read was his bible, and he told many stories from it. He firmly believed he would go to Heaven, be reunited with his wife, and live in a beautiful mansion and walk streets made of gold. He loved watching football and baseball and once caught a baseball, bare-handed, which happened to be Stan Musial’s (his hero) 401st home run. He had that ball signed by Stan.

Alan is now reunited with the love of his life, which is exactly what he wanted.

  1. Steve, my Sister Judy, Jen and her family made sure Alan was busy the last few years after Mitzi passed. Visiting him and taking him out and about, having some great adventures. Like the time I heard they were on a Train to Kansas City. My favorite was when they were all on a Boat with some of my family heading to Alaska!!! Alan is now having many more adventures with his wife Mitzi on the other side. They raised a wonderful family.
