Tabor

In Loving Memory

Tabor, Marie Theresa

September 18, 1929 - March 2, 2025

Marie Theresa Tabor (née Romano)
September 18, 1929 – March 2, 2025

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Marie “Nannie” entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the age of ninety-five.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Tabor; her parents, Salvatore and Isabella (née Averta) Romano; her siblings, Rose Ponticello and John Romano; and her daughter-in-law, Katherine Tabor.

Marie was the cherished mother of Stephen, Christopher (Katherine), Mark, and James (Tamela) Tabor; devoted grandmother of Joseph (Aimara), Christopher (Samantha), and Matthew (Amanda) Tabor; Jennifer (Kelvin), Theodore (Amy), and the late Julie Tabor; and Nicholas, Andrew, James Jr., and Thomas Tabor. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Destiny Conley, Dominic Ukaumunna, Cameron, Isabella, and Juliana Tabor; Gracie and Miles Tabor; and Daniel and Sebastian Tabor.

She was the dear daughter-in-law of the late Stanislaus and Mary Ann (née Karpowicz) Tabor and the beloved sister-in-law of the late Sophie (Phil) Biernacki, the late Mamie (Tom) Fletcher, the late Antoinette (Mike) O’Connell, the late Joseph (Peggy) Tabor, the late Stanley (Lea) Tabor, the late Thaddeus Tabor, the late Helen (Jerome) Lowis, the late Myra (Ed) Criger, the late Bernice (Bill) Hansen, and the late Delores (Doc) Bolesta.

Marie was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, godmother, cousin, neighbor, and treasured friend to many.

Born on September 18, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, Marie was the proud daughter and granddaughter of Italian immigrants. She grew up on Beacon Avenue in Walnut Park, attended Cyrus P. Walbridge Elementary School, and later graduated from Beaumont High School.

She met the love of her life, Ed Tabor, and they were married on September 2, 1950, building a beautiful life together with their four sons on Bella Lane. Marie’s greatest joy was her family, and she deeply cherished her grandchildren.

A vibrant and active woman, she co-founded the Pi Beta Chi sorority with her high school friends, participated in the Red Hat Club, and even established a Frank Sinatra Fan Club in St. Louis. She spent many years working as a waitress at the family-owned Ponticello’s Restaurant in Spanish Lake alongside her sister before transitioning to a career as a customer service representative at First National Bank in Downtown St. Louis, where she worked for nearly 20 years.

Marie had a deep love for musical theater and frequently attended performances at The Muny, often bringing her grandchildren along to share in the magic of live performances. She was also a devoted (rabid) St. Louis Cardinals fan, never missing a chance to cheer on her favorite team. An exceptional cook, Nannie’s homemade spaghetti and meatballs brought family and friends together, creating cherished memories around the table.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted parishioner of St. Catherine of Alexandria and Holy Name of Jesus parishes, she served as a visiting Eucharistic minister and was a proud supporter of the Pink Sisters. She maintained a never-ending prayer list, fervently praying for everyone she knew and loved. Many of her grandchildren fondly recall spending the night at her home, waking up to find her sitting in her living room chair, prayer book in hand, reciting the Rosary and praying for loved ones.

Marie’s legacy is one of faith, love, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

  2. Nannie was not my grandmother by blood but that didn’t matter. She was always there for my family when we knew we needed it or not. Saturday’s spent cleaning and being asked “when was the last time you used this” were always worth whatever dinner she was making us. I am positive my love for all things Italian came from that little kitchen in Bellefontaine Neighbors. I love you Nannie and I will miss you always!

  3. As I call her Mom Tabor she was a beautiful lady! I had the pleasure of knowing her through her son Chris and her late daughter in-law Kate at the Physical Therapy Center where I was working. She always greeted me with a hug and a kiss and told me she loved me. I will treasure those memories for ever! Mom Tabor may you fly high with the angels because they sure have gotten a special gift!💝

  5. Marie was a very good friend of my mother. They prayed the rosary together many times . My best memories of Marie will be St. Catherine’s and Holy Name of Jesus fish fries. If she was serving fish on your plate. She made sure you had enough to feed at least two people. I miss seeing you.

  7. Mrs. Marie Tabor was my neighbor when my husband and I purchased our first home on 835 Bella Ln. On the first day that we were moving in which was in the middle of January and was snowing, Mrs. Tabor cooked our family a big pot of soup which was delicious and from that day forward, our beautiful relationship formed. Mrs. Tabor was extremely kind and displayed her commitment of faith in God to all she encountered. She loved my husband and I as well as our 2 children and always greeted us warmly with her beautiful smile. She was the epitome of grace, beauty, and kindness and will be dearly missed. May her sweet soul forever rest in peace as the Angels welcome her into Heaven! Love you forever Mrs. Tabor and thank you for the being the BEST neighbor I could have ever asked or dreamed of!

  8. Aunt Marie, along with my grandmother, spoiled me so much. As I was the only niece/granddaughter for sometime. I spent a lot of time with both. I was the flower girl in her and uncle Eddie’s wedding. We did many lunches, swimming, shopping, and shared lots of good times & bad. I, along with my husband, Ludwig whom she liked to lovingly tease about not being Italian. She would say when introducing him to others “he is German, but I still like him!” Lol! We both will miss her, and cherish all the wonderful memories we made. She loved all her family & friends and will be missed by all💕
