Thomas, Phyllis J. Mitchell

Phyllis J Mitchell Thomas  Born February 9, 1950 –  February 22 , 2022

Phyllis was born and raised in Calvert city, Kentucky. She lived her best life with her husband (best friend) of 26 years Dorrell “Tommy” Thomas in Saint Louis, MO for the past 25 years.

She was preceded by her mother Dorothy Cox, father A.P. Mitchell, sister Tania Hamilton, brother Larry Mitchell, and nephew Jeffrey Duff. Survived by her brother Danny & his wife Denise Mitchell (of Michigan).

Phyllis was more than a wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daycare provider, family… etc. She and her husband are eternal best friends and the light of each other’s lives. Phyllis was our friend and our fortress .

Her oldest daughter Stacy R Moore Shaw led the way home for her mom on January 9th ,  2022. Surviving children Howard “Sonny” W Moore III, David “Shawn” Moore (AKA “Doc”) and Jennifer E Moore Averitt.

Mother by heart & love of; Chrissy R Holland, Angela L Bottoms Rose, Rhonda Noe, Dewayne Noe (All of Paducah, KY). Sterling Henderson(of St Louis).

Soul mom of Michele (with one “l”) Lombardo Noah (of St Louis).

Her baby angel, her grand baby angel, and her 7 great grand baby angels called home before birth, Now being loved and adored in heaven.

For her grand and great grandchildren she was the key to the magic kingdom and the TEA in the desert.

Katy Moore Miller & Michael Miller, Dionte’ Bell-Moore, Sacoyia Bell-Moore & Marlaysia Keyes Bell-Moore, Jasmine Moore, Kírtén Åríáté (L.H.) Moore, Anna Averitt & Kevin Morgan JR, Joshua Averitt, Delaena Mohnike, Tyler Kielnhofer, Sam Pullen, Kamenn Giitinger, Tyler Jones, Alyssa Rehg, Harper Williams, Zane Reynolds, Johnny Reynolds, Grayson Reynolds, Jack Reynolds, Conner Sandbothe, Jake Anderson, Druva Willard …her grandchildren that she was given or gained in this life are too numerous to name all, they are as countless as the sands on the beach … she loves each and every one of them.

Her great grandchildren are: Thea Miller, De’Khari Williams, Jayceon James, Oden Hill and Baby Moore, Kevin Morgan the 3rd, Kian Morgan, Kali Morgan, Kaleigh Morgan, Ryleigh Kielnhofer, MeMe Grayer, Kai Lonnie Pearson.

Her nieces & nephews, aunts & nephew, cousins … all her family is very precious to her.

She will always be a strong presence in our hearts as we have to walk our paths without her by our sides. Until we see you again our hearts will hold you up high.

Her Celebration of Life will be held on March 12th, 2022 at 3pm at Cornerstone Community Church. Located at 2833 Telegraph Rd , St Louis, Mo 63125

  1. Phyllis was a second Mom to me. She loved me as her own. She was a big part of my childhood. I love you very much, this is not goodbye it just until I see you again. I know you’ll be watching over us all from heaven as you did here on earth. Save me a place until I get there. Give Stacy hugs for me.

  3. My dad used to say “That Phyliss sure is a good person”. We learned that to be true in the following 7 years. We trusted her and Tommy with our home and our dog when we traveled. Sharing dinners out with her and Tommy were always a bright spot in our week. Phyliss gave you anything she had and if she didn’t have it, she’d get it. She never thought poorly of anyone. We will miss you so much. Please send help from above to help Tommy thru his loss of you, Phyliss.
