On Monday Sept. 11, 2023. Loving husband of Rita Thompson (nee Ronald). Beloved father of Renee (Daniel) O’Leary, Michele (Terry) Standfast and Lynelle Thompson. Cherished grandfather of Nicole, Melea and Megan (Adam). Most precious Ampa of Ely & Daniel. Dear brother of Hughie Thompson and Eileen Pollack. Our dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Joe and Rita have lived in Arnold for 61 years.
They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in December.
Joe had retired in 1991 from AT&T after 35 years of service. Joe was a proud member of Tyro Lodge No. 12 in Caledonia, MO which he joined in Dec. 1958. He attained Master Mason in Feb. 1959 and served as Worshipful Master in 1963. He would have received his 65 year membership pin later next year. Beyond work and family, Joe’s passions were his love of hunting and golf and he proudly rode his antique Farmall tractor as a gentleman farmer in Caledonia. With five holes in one to his credit, he later really enjoyed the camaraderie of his weekly Senior Scramble games and being a Marshall at Pomme Creek Golf Course.
Services; Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel (5255 Lemay Ferry) on Thursday 9/21 from 4-7PM. Graveside service at Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery (Caledonia, MO) on Friday 9/22 at 11AM. Rob and I were really sorry to hear this sad news. Joe and Rita and my mom and dad who are both deceased were neighbors for many, many years. We lived in a neighborhood where families and neighbors helped each other and were close like family. Watching Joe where he could not get out and mow his grass and live life to its fullest as he was used to, was probably harder on Joe, than any one of us. On a positive note, I am so glad Rita and Joe and kids and their kids got to get away last summer and take a wonderful family vacation. That had to create some good memories! Fun times and loving memories certainly help us get past the sad feeling we have when we lose someone. We are praying for comfort and peace to the Joe Thompson family. Love….Rob and Becky

I am sad to hear about Joe. I was married to Rita’s niece for 37 years before her passing. They were family and Joe and I had many great talks and golf rounds and plenty of laughs. He was a great friend and will really be missed.
My condolences to Rita and the family. There will be a void that can never be filled.

Rita & daughters, please accept our deepest sympathy. Rode to WECO together for many years back in the day. Arnold to Ballwin. Coffee was our thing last man picked had coffee for all four of us. Russ, Roger, Joe, and myself. We all had daughters, and we blamed it on the coffee. Joe was a quiet mountain of a man and if he said something he meant it. I had much respect for him. Rest in peace old friend.

As our family gets smaller , we missed those already gone. Joe was.my favorite uncle. He did things for me a lot of men probably wouldn’t have done. Rita, remember that we love you. You guys were always there for me. We’ll miss the big man with a big heart.
