Passed on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, after a long illness at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by husband Dr. Thomas L. Tynes (1988) and son Thomas E. Tynes (1961). Norma is survived by daughters Marianne Higginbotham, Jennifer (the late Doug) Roller, Christie (John) Schneider and sons Robert S. (Julie) Tynes and Jeffrey L. Tynes; as well 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Norma had several careers in her long life, while raising 6 children. Most notable was her time at Suburban Journals, where she was instrumental in saving White Haven, Ulysses Grant’s homestead, from demolition.
Sharing her love of history, art, music, and theater enriched the lives of her children and grandchildren. Norma’s thirst for knowledge, interest in current events, insistence on staying active, and a great sense of humor kept her young at heart until the very end.
The family wishes to extend their utmost gratitude to the nurses and staff at deGreeff Hospice House for their immeasurable care and compassion. Those wishing to make a donation in Norma’s name, may consider making it to deGreeff Hospice House. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery was held in private. KUTIS AFFTON service.
Bob and I offer our deepest condolences to Christi, our wonderful neighbor, and to Christie’s sisters and brothers. Reading about Ms. Tynes’ long and full life; her careers and passions, was both enlightening and amazing. We know that this lovely woman and Mother is at peace.
Sending our sympathies,
Bob and Mary McKay
