In Loving Memory

Vallentine, Betty Jean

June 21, 1935 - January 1, 2025

Betty Jean (Link) Vallentine, 89, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025 in Iowa.

Betty was the beloved wife of the late, Charles Vallentine, and the mother of four children (Charles, Jr., John, Robert and Linda).  Betty was born and raised in St. Louis and lived there until 2020.  She moved to Iowa after the passing of her husband to live nearby son, John Vallentine, and daughter-in-law, Diane. Betty and Charlie were married for over 65 years and loved traveling, fishing, casino visits, Cardinal baseball games, and visiting with friends and family.  Betty loved dancing (due to early performances as a dancer at the Muny) and had a lifelong passion for music.

Betty especially enjoyed visits and phone calls with grandchildren whom she loved:  Cori, Nicki, Stefan and Mallory and their spouses/partner (Kristina, Alek, Tom and Aaron).  Her joy and excitement for great-grandchildren Kara, Kellan, and a baby on the way were undeniable!

A visitation will be held at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, on January 10, 2025 at 8:30 a.m., with a service officiated by Paster John Brunette of Faith Church at 9 a.m.  Burial will immediately follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Faith Church Music Ministry.

  1. John, Diane, Cori, Nicki, Stefan, and Mallory – Rick and I are so sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. I will always remember her beautiful smile and how much she loved her family. She and I had some lovely – and fun – talks over the years! I saw right away upon meeting her from where you got your wonderful disposition, John. I’m very happy to have known her. Having lost my dad a few months ago, I know how difficult this is for all of you. My hope for you is that you’re able to cherish this time sharing memories and stories and remembering Betty as the wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother she was and will always be. I really did like her so very much. Love to you all, my beautiful Vallentines ❤️

I had the privilege of working with your mom at Mehlville School District for many years and she was one of my favorite people in my time there. She always had a smile on her face and was the perfect person to help run the Maintenance office. All the “guys” down at JB could always count on some good advice from our second mom, Betty.

  3. Dear family of Betty,
My deepest sympathy and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. I had the extreme pleasure of working with Betty in the Mehlville School District at the Jefferson Barrack’s Building. I worked in the Operations Dept and she was in the Maintenance Dept. We had some wonderful times together, shared lots of laughs and I learned so much from her. She was a mom to so many and we all loved her. Once Betty retired, I filled her position but never her shoes. She was irreplaceable! She was a very dear friend and I will miss being able to communicate with her on Facebook. She loved her family dearly and I know how much she enjoyed being near them. She was so very proud of all of you. May God bless your broken hearts and may it bring peace to your souls to know that she is resting in the arms of Jesus. My love and prayers to you all.
