Venk-Venckunas Thaissa

Passed away of natural caused at age 97 on Tuesday April 28, 2020 at Alexian Brohters Lansdown Village nursing home.

Thaissa (nee Luczakowsky) was born in 1922 in Polish Ukraine and was trained as a dental hygienist in Vienna in the 194-‘s. She emigrated to Australia after WOrld War II and then to America in the 1960’s, where she earned her MSW in Social Work at St. Louis’s Washington University. She worked for the Missouri Department of Mental Health for over 20 years, until her retirement in 1988; since then she lived in South St. Louis , but occasionally travelled with friends to Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, Sicily, Spain and Brazil. By those who knew her, she will be remembered for her generous and caring spirit, her intelligence and her vivacious personality. Hers was a life truly well-lived.

  1. Thaissa was a special child of God who would always listen and comfort others with her smile and soothing words. We met while I was working at Nazareth Living Center and she was a volunteer. Our friendship developed into many fun times together. She was a very dear and special friend to me.

  3. Thaissa was a good friend and social work mentor to me. I have always treaured her friendship and guidance through life’s difficulties. Her own life experience was truly remarkable.
    It is sad to think of a world without her. She was a treasure.
