Voohies

In Loving Memory

Vorhies, Joyce K.

Joyce Kay (Black) Vorhies, 81, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on April 9, 2022.

She was born May 23, 1940 to Arthur and Gladys Black. Her fondest memories were of spending time with her brother Dean at her grandparents’ farm in Dent County.

She was self-educated and rightfully proud of her accomplishments in her professional career. For 23 years she served as direct secretary for the Magistrate Judge at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Greatly admired by her colleagues and peers, she was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the U.S. Marshals Service in recognition of her service to the federal government.

Joyce was active in her Franz Park neighborhood in Dogtown, where she lived most of her adult life. She loved Rock n Roll, dancing, learning, reading, traveling and eating sweets. She especially loved spending time with her grandbabies.

She was the soul of her family, known affectionately as “Noni.” She is survived by her beloved children Sherry Licklider, Roger Vorhies, Dean Vorhies, Jimi Ann Butler, and 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her fierce, protective and loving legacy will live on through her children and the many lives she touched.

Donations in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are appreciated. There will be a celebration of life on May 28, at the Lenox Community Center in Edgar Springs, MO.
