Paul Francis Winslow, Arnold, MO December 7, 2023
Born September 22, 1944 in Utica NY to Francis and Rita (Barry) Winslow. His family home was filled with love, many celebrations and the cuisines of Utica and the Irish. From the time Paul was 10, summers were spent at the family camp in Sylvan Beach, NY along the shores of Oneida Lake. There, he honed his skills as a camp builder, fire starter (occasionally with stolen materials) and carny, running the horse racing game at The Midway.
After graduating from Notre Dame High School, he attended Utica College until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. Despite being offered the opportunity to serve stateside, Paul chose to serve overseas in Vietnam. He knew that if he did not go, someone else would be sent in his place.
Paul dedicated his career to improving the lives of working men and women. For 40 years he worked as a union organizer (and later as an International Vice President) for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. First in Utica, then in Springfield, MA and finally in St. Louis, MO, he fought to make sure his members had fair wages and better benefits.
His dedication to the causes he believed in permeated his life. Throughout the years he worked for the reunification of Ireland (26+6=1), promoted the social justice causes of the Catholic Church, and assisted in the election of Democratic candidates at all levels of government.
He passed many of his passions and beliefs down to his children. He and his youngest son, Dominic, participated in Civil War reenacting. His daughter Cara began her adult life with a career in politics and government. Both Dominic and Paul’s older son Patrick chose to serve their county in the military, both serving overseas during war time. All of his children share his passion for cooking, especially for holiday celebrations.
In 2004, he and Rebecca Pope were married. For 12 years, they shared their life in O’Fallon, MO, Sylvan Beach, NY, and Hutchinson, KS, until Becky’s death in 2016.
He is survived by his sister, Roseanne Winslow Murphy of Plattsburgh, NY and his children and grandchildren: Cara & Todd Mayberry (Elwood & Finn) of Advance, MO, Patrick & Amanda Winslow (Chavelle, Michele, Liberty, Alexander, & Joseph, Jr.) of Ludlow, MA, and Dominic & Emily Winslow (Benjamin & Charles) of St. Louis, MO.
He is also survived by his stepchildren and grandchildren: Tammy & Jake Fletchall (Brittney, Brody, Sidney, & Alec), Jenny & Shane Patterson (Tyler & Madison) and Jerry Bullock (Brackelle, Persia & Gage) all of Hutchinson, KS.
In order to name his 6 (soon to be 7) great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues who meant so much to Paul, we would have to take out a two page spread. Know that if you were part of his clan, you were loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother-in-law, Gary Murphy, his cousin/extra sister Maria (Mia) Brazill, and his best friend Thomas Bach, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that his faith assured him he would see again.
We know he was greeted by his beloved dogs: Yogi, Lady, Mocha, Frankie, & Sarah.
Paul loved to send friends and family shamrocks on St. Patrick’s Day, lilies for Easter, and poinsettias for Christmas, but in lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make a donation in his name to the charity or cause that means the most to you.
Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON Chapel 10151 Gravois Wednesday December 13, 10:00 AM. Interment JB National Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 4:00-7:00 PM.

To the family of our dear friend , Paul.
We miss you already. To know you was to love you. You were always kind & giving in every way. You had the best sincere hugs.
You were the smartest, most resourceful man I ever met. Always had great stories.
We will miss your visits @ my cousin Bobbie’s, your next door neighbor & dear friend.
You were reluctant to accept help from anyone but finally warmed up to the idea & allowed us all to be a part of your life. I for one am blessed & grateful to have had you in mine. Rest in peace dear Paul. Enjoy your “1st Christmas in Heaven!”

Paul I worked with you in the union for so many years. You were a good man and wonderful friend. Miss you. See you in Heaven someday.
Paul was a very good friend to not only us but to all he met. Paul and I became
Kindred spirits in scouting after we discovered we were both Viet
Nam veterans. That made us brothers and that made us stronger friends. Kay and I will miss his humor, his kindness and his love of family and friends. Paul loved his causes and fought diligently to correct wrongs. May he be in heaven before the devil knows he’s gone. Love to Paul and his entire family.
So sorry for your loss. Paul was always so happy and kind, he will be missed
Our hearts are broken. What a bright and generous spirit he was. I have no doubt he is orbiting around you all as you were his world. Sylvan Beach will never feel the same and never be the same. Your father was a great man. We send our love to you all.
To my dear Irish friend, it was a pleasure to know you and work with you at AIL. Prayers for your family and friends, who will miss you deeply but know that you had a life well lived.
I had the pleasure to work with Paul in St. Louis as he continued to fight for workers with American Income Life. We had some great times together and he especially loved when I came in to town so we could eat on THE HILL and go to the bakery! Truly a good man!
R.I.P. Paul. You were a good Union man, a good person all around and a person I am proud to call friend.
Rest Ye Well Brother Workman!!!
Paul was a remarkable, Kind & Caring Individual! His knowledge of history of the Civil War was fascinating! He was a master storyteller and could bring history alive! He could have been a history professor, but he love and passion for the labor relations were his second love after his family! Farewell my friend!
