Margaret Virginia “Ginny” Maier (née Burns), age 100, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri. A lifelong resident of St. Louis, Ginny was born there on November 19, 1924, to James and Cecelia Burns.
Ginny’s life was marked by deep faith, enduring love for her family, and a zest for living that carried her through a full century. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and went on to earn her degree from Fontbonne College, laying the foundation for a life enriched by learning and community.
She shared many years of marriage with her beloved husband, Robert W. Maier, who preceded her in death in 2014. Together they built a home filled with warmth and hospitality-a place where family gathered often for meals, laughter, and cherished memories. Ginny’s devotion to her family was unwavering; she delighted in spending time with them, whether hosting visits or treating them to meals out.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Peggy Wiese and was preceded in death by her son-in-law Fred “Woody” Wiese. Ginny’s legacy continues through her granddaughters: Suzanne Iovaldi (Chris Oakes), Emily Iovaldi (Eddie Albany), Lauren Iovaldi (Matt Hickey), and Jamie Iovaldi (Chris Jones). Her great-grandchildren-Walker and Hunter Albany; Mairin and Matthew Hickey; Amelia and Harrison Jones-brought her immense joy in her later years.
Ginny was also preceded in death by her sister Mary Lorraine Kelley.
A woman of strong Catholic faith, Ginny attended daily Mass throughout much of her life. Her spirituality was a guiding force that shaped how she lived-with grace, compassion, and resilience.
An avid golfer well into her later years, Ginny achieved a remarkable milestone at age 85 when she scored her first-and only, hole-in-one. She also had a lifelong love of Bridge. She played regularly while raising her daughter and later formed another Bridge group during her time at Mari de Villa Senior Living Community.
Ginny’s life was one of quiet strength, joyful gatherings, and enduring faith. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
The family would also like to thank Nazareth Living Center and Breeze Hospice nurses who showed amazing compassion, patience and love to our mother, grandmother and great grandmother in her final year.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St Clement of Rome 1510 Bopp Rd. There will be a private viewing for family at 10am. Mass will follow at 11am.
