In Loving Memory

Vogt, Sydney Sandra

March 16, 1935 - January 12, 2026

Sydney Sandra Vogt, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and joyful memories that will continue to shape the lives of all who knew her.
She was the devoted wife of the late Duane Vogt for 54 years. Cherished mother of Tammy (Brian) Straub, Fred (Jennifer) Vogt, and the late Dan (Sue) Vogt and Timothy Vogt. She is also survived by Timothy’s wife, Lisa Vogt and bonus son Craig (Lisa) Stieg. Loving grandmother of Adam Hunziker, Lee (Tanya) Lenzing, Eric (Lindsay) Vogt, Crysta Vogt, Jesse Vogt, Aaron (Abbey) Vogt, Dan Vogt, Tyler (Courtney) Vogt, Cody (Kylie) Vogt, Cory (Rachel) Straub, Landon Vogt, Brittany Stieg and the late Scott Lenzing. Proud great-grandmother of Emma, Owen, Danny, Xavier, Jackson, Kai, Willow, Sophia, Carson, Lucas, Isabelle, Nolan, and Ronan. She was also a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, bonus mom, and friend to many.
Sydney was born in Wichita, Kansas, to Sidney and Eleanor Walworth, arriving during a dust storm as her father navigated while the doctor drove her mother to the hospital. An only child, she grew up affectionately known as “Sonnie,” surrounded by cousins who felt more like siblings. She lived by the values her parents modeled—remembering that it takes two to argue and to never go to bed angry. In high school she was active in many pursuits, and after graduation she played semi-pro basketball while completing business college.
Syd and Duane met by chance at a skating rink shortly before he was deployed to Japan as a Marine. Their long-distance courtship blossomed into a marriage that stood the test of time. They welcomed four children in quick succession, including an unexpected set of twins.
The young family moved from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to St. Louis, Missouri, where they quickly became part of the community. Throughout their marriage they were involved in scouting, square dancing, hypnosis, and clowning. After Duane’s passing in 2010, Syd remained active—clowning with her church, participating in the Red Hat Society, and continuing to bring joy wherever she went.
Syd spent years caring for children in her home before returning to work as a part-time playground supervisor in the Normandy School District. She later became a payroll supervisor there, retiring after a dedicated career. Before retirement, she and Duane began their professional clowning journey. One of her proudest accomplishments was performing as Fussie Gussie, using humor and heart to turn frowns upside down and brighten the lives of others.
Syd lived a life defined by warmth, humor, and unwavering love. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, a resilience that carried her through life’s surprises, and a fun-loving
spirit that remained vibrant throughout her 90 years. Her family looked to her not only for guidance, but for the comfort and steadiness that only she could provide.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Randy’s Rescue Ranch are appreciated.

  1. I was her proud sis-in-law. We referred to each other as “Sis”. I knew her when she lived in Bartlesville, OK and enjoyed our visits after she moved to St.Louis. We will all miss this lovely lady. I hope to keep in touch with her beautiful family, and I grieve with them in their loss.
