Vernne Jeanne “VJ” Remelius passed away on January 19, 2026, at the age of 88. She was born on May 5, 1937, in Roby, Texas, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She married Bobby J. Remelius in November of 1958. While life eventually took her out of state, VJ never stopped being a Texan — and she never let anyone else forget it, either.
VJ was a devoted wife. mother and grandmother with a fierce sense of independence, a sharper-than-average wit, and a strong belief that her children and grandchildren could accomplish anything.
She is survived by her children, Eric Remelius (Susan), Kerry Hugo, and Erin Krauck (Vince), each of whom inherited her determination (whether they asked for it or not). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Grace Remelius, Paige Fanz (Nathan), Garret Hugo, Vivian Krauck, and Debbie Krauck, who brought her deep pride, great joy.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her 4 siblings, her husband of 57 years, Bobby Jean Remelius, her son in law, Jerry Hugo, and her beloved niece, Hope Remelius.
Not shockingly, VJ will be buried with a small bottle of Texas soil. She may have lived a number of other places, but she made it very clear that Texas was in her heart.
VJ will be remembered for her strength, her loyalty to family, her fierce independence, and her fun sense of humor. She leaves behind a family shaped by her love, her resilience, and her love of life. Her roots remain deep, her legacy strong, and her spirit — stubborn, proud, and unapologetically Texan — lives on.
