Jean Mitchell, 91, died November 18. Born October 23, 1927, married Larry Mitchell (d. 1997). Children Shelley (d. 1968), Laurie Miller Clark, Tim (Janet) Mitchell, Kevin (Lauren) Mitchell. She leaves grandchildren Kelly, Matt, Shelly; Ryan and Austin; Owen and Beckett; and great-grandchildren Alex and Avery.
Jean Evelyn Cowee was born in St. Louis to Leo and Thelma and was raised to appreciate hard work, a quality she instilled in her children. She “worked outside the home” before that was a thing, at Biederman’s Furniture and then for more than 20 years as an accountant at an orthopedic group. When she and Larry retired, they traveled extensively. Jean loved music, dancing, bowling, a cocktail, socializing, and telling stories. She was a voracious reader and most important, a friend to all.
A wonderful mother who supported and encouraged her children, she was especially devoted to her grandchildren, who in turn loved her very much. Her wit and warmth will be cherished and remembered. After a great life, she passed quickly and calmly surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Services: Visitation at Kutis Affton, Sunday Nov. 25, 4-8 pm. Funeral at Assumption Church, Monday, Nov. 26, 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Salvation Army.
