Mary H. Onder, 90, wife of the late LaVerle L. Sutton, and wife of the late Clifford Onder, passed away Sunday, June 23rd, at 2:55 am at The Villages in St. Peters Missouri.
Born April 3, 1929, in St.Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Esther Maloney (Paul).
Mary graduated from Mckinley High School, as did husband LaVerle. She was a good student, and the high school currriculum in those times made it possible for Mary to graduate with a proficiency in typing and shorthand. After her three children were in school, Mary worked as secretary, proofreader, etc. – with long term employment at Baer,Sterns, & Cohen, and Saddle & Bridle Magazine.
Mary was very active at Tabernacle Baptist Church, and later Affton Baptist Church. She worked in the nursery, as a Sunday School teacher, and in various other positions.
After 30 years of marriage, husband LaVerle, and LaVerle’s brother Leon, (and two others) were tragically killed in the Roosevelt high school fire of 1977.
Cliff Onder was Mary’s second husband; a marriage that lasted 36 years until Cliff’s death in 2017. Mary and Cliff saw the world together, taking many wonderful trips. They also saw the greater St. Louis area in ways few of us do, in small planes that Cliff loved to fly.
