Richard-Anthony

In Loving Memory

Anthony, Richard Lee

Richard Lee Anthony, 74, died January 6, 2023, following a 13-year fight with prostate cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Anthony, and their two children, Anne Marie Apollo-Noel  (Morgan Noel) and John (Alyssa) Apollo. He is also survived by his son Zachary (Mallory) Anthony, his two grandsons, Austin Anthony and Henry Noel, his brother, Calvin (Ann) Anthony, his sister, Alice (Jim) Willwert, his sister-in-law Joann Emerson, his nieces and nephews, Melissa Anthony, Mark (Stephanie) Anthony, Richie Stottlemyer, Amy Stottlemyer, Joe (Jenn) Emerson and Jennifer (Matt) Binning,  his great-nieces and nephews, and his many friends, including Elise Anthony.

Rich was born September 30, 1948, in York, Pa., to William and Beatrice Anthony, who preceded him in death. He graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1966 and soon enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in locations including California and Iceland. He was decommissioned with an honorable discharge at the rank of Aviation Electrician’s Mate Petty Officer 2nd Class, having received the National Defense Service Medal.

A lifelong fan of the Nittany Lions, Rich enrolled in Penn State following his return to civilian life, earning an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology in 1979. After relocating to St. Louis, Missouri, where he spent the remainder of his life, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Systems and Data Processing from Washington University in St. Louis in 1996.

An expert in network information management engineering, Rich spent more than 30 years working for McDonnell Douglas, IBM, and The Boeing Company before retiring in 2010.

Among other service and volunteer activities, he was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association, past president of the Penn State Alumni Association in St. Louis, and a dedicated trustee of his neighborhood association.

Committed to charitable causes, he supported many non-profit organizations across the country. A dedicated parent, he also was a leader in lobbying for fathers’ custody rights in Missouri’s state capitol.

Visitation will take place Monday, February 6, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Kutis South on Lemay Ferry Road. A memorial service will be held in the chapel there at noon, followed by interment with honors at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, tributes may be made to Evelyn’s House – BJC Hospice via The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital or the PAN Foundation, which assists those living with life-threatening, chronic, and rare diseases with treatment costs.
