In Loving Memory

Doerre, Sharon (nee: Mahon)

10/26/1934 – 11/05/2022

Born in the City of St. Louis, to John Francis and Hazel (Thomas) Mahon, predeceased by beloved older brother John Francis “Mickey” Mahon, and her husband of 41 years, B. Donald Doerre. She is survived by three children, and a devoted son-in-law; Sharon L Doerre and David Myren of Austin TX, Yvonne Doerre of Washington DC, and David John Mahon Doerre of Los Angeles, CA;  four grandchildren, Alexander, Raiya, William Myren, and August Doerre; dear cousin Jane Mallon, her children, and grandchildren; and many dear friends.

She loved her childhood in the Walnut Park neighborhood and was a proud graduate of Beaumont High School. She studied hard, rode three buses each way, and earned a BS in Physical Therapy from Washington University.  She lobbied in Jefferson City to establish a professional license for Physical Therapists in Missouri. She treasured her career as one of the first Physical Therapists at Shriner’s Hospital.

She delighted most of all in her three children and stayed home with them full time for 12 years. She returned to physical therapy part-time until retirement; primarily as a home health provider, where her warmth brightened the lives of patients and their families.

She enthusiastically helped each child take risks and discover their lives in Texas; the East and West Coasts.  With her children in far-flung states, she became an honorary Aunt and Grandma to many families and friends’ children and grandchildren.

Sharon and Don were devoted members of St. Lucas United Church of Christ and valued the friendships they made there. Sharon spent many years as a lay minister for St. Lucas, visiting sick church members at home and the hospital.  In her final years, she was a recipient of wonderful home health and caring ministries; completing the circle of care and compassion in her life. Her family is so thankful for all her caregivers from Friendship Village Skilled Nursing Center, Mercy Hospice, and St. Lucas Caring Ministries.   In her last year, she rarely spoke, but the core of her remained – she smiled and held your hand; the final things she said were “Thank you,” and “I love you.”

Visitation will be held at Kutis Funeral Home Affton, 10151 Gravois Rd, Friday, November 11, 4:00 pm-8:00 pm.  Funeral, St. Lucas UCC, 11735 Denny Rd, Saturday, November 12, visitation at 9:00 am, service at 10:00 am with burial immediately following at St. Lucas Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sharon’s honor to Feed My People, https://www.feed-my-people.org/memorial-giving

Please join us for refreshment and fellowship at Friendship Village Sunset Hills, Ball Room.  Immediately after funeral service.

  1. Sharon was a warm, compassionate & intelligent friend. I met Sharon when we formed our book club over 20 yrs ago. She has been missed the last couple of years when we met to discuss our monthly book. She will always be remembered by her book club friends with love. May Gods love & peace surround, enfold & uplift her as she makes her transition.

  5. Always a smile and kind heart were just some of the great ways to remember such a caring person in Mrs. Doerre. She was a great wife, mother and grandmother to her family and will be missed by us all who she made feel welcomed into her life.

  7. It was such a pleasure to know my dear friend Dave’s warm, wonderful mother, Sharon Doerre, for the past 20-plus years. Dave and his mom had a very special bond, and those of us who spent time with Dave also had the honor of spending time with Sharon. Whether it was to say hello over the phone (Dave and Sharon spoke daily), play cards on her visits, or staying with her in her St. Louis apartment (she was happy to host me as I travelled around the country a few years ago)… Sharon was always great fun to be with. I will always remember our day together eating St. Louis ribs and touring around the city to see all the sites. I have great photos of us at the St. Louis Arch and I will cherish the memories. Sharon Doerre will be missed by all that knew her!
