In Loving Memory

Fortner, Jerald Ashford

Fortner, Jerald Ashford, 86, passed away quietly at home on Thursday, March 8, 2018 and now rests in the arms of his Savior, Jesus.  Beloved husband of Elaine Virga; father of  Christine  Heidenreich; grandfather of Jeff (Sophie)  Heidenreich and Amy (Jeff) Grus; great-grandfather of Jillian  Heidenreich and Oliver Grus;  brother-in-law, cousin and friend.

As a boy, Jerry gained business experience working along side his parents in their grocery store in Overland.  At 18, he took on the responsibility of  supporting his mother after the sudden death of his father.  He worked as a salesman for  various companies before he  began selling insurance, then opened his own agency on North Hanley.  In 1975, he bought a laminating franchise.  Under his  presidency, American  Laminating developed a fine reputation for quality service.  He loved working with the public and only retired due to  Alzheimer’s.

Jerry was a lifelong member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Overland.  He served as an insurance rep, treasurer, vice-president, and president of the congregation.  In his later years, he was a faithful usher at the Monday night service.

Services:  Visitation Monday, March 12, 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 9135 Shelly Ave., Overland, 63114.  Funeral at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Affton.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or The Alzheimer’s Association appreciated.
