Johnston, Craig

In Loving Memory

Johnston, Craig M.

January 16, 1962 - June 29, 2024

Craig Johnston passed away peacefully on June 29th , 2024, surrounded by his family.

Craig spent his final weeks surrounded by family in the wonderful care of Barnes Jewish Hospital and Evelyn’s House Hospice.

Craig spent his life in St. Louis, Missouri after studying electrical engineering at the University of Missouri. Craig had the distinct honor of being named a Professional Engineer (PE) in his field. Craig is survived by his two sons Benjamin (Michelle) and Nicholas (Chelsea), his older brothers Bruce (Jeannie) and Mark (Kathy), and the mother of his sons Mary. He is preceded in death by his son Alexander and his parents Doris and Mel.

Craig was an avid outdoorsman and survivalist and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of both with those around him. Craig’s love of the outdoors started as a kid when he was a boy scout and continued as a young adult where he earned the prestigious honor of Eagle Scout. While outdoors Craig enjoyed fishing, hunting, marksmanship, and camping. He would often take hikes around the St. Louis area to enjoy the wildlife and scenery frequently escorted by his trusted Jack Russell Terrier named Gypsy. Craig’s love of the
outdoors extended to animals and along with Gypsy he had a black cat named Shadow which he loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Craig’s honor to the Missouri Department of Conservation. Craig’s remains will be buried in Sunset Memorial Park and Mausoleum alongside his son Alexander. A celebration of life will be held at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton on July 13th from 2:00-6:00pm.

  2. This is a beautiful obituary. Rest in peace Craig. Continue to watch over Ben and Nick like Alex does. We had many fun family outings and experiences when the kids were young. They all learned a lot as you were teaching them about the outdoors.

  3. I did not have the chance to meet Craig. However we share a special bond. His son Nick and my daughter Chase are soul mates. Having Chase in our lives makes us some of the luckiest people on Earth. May Craig’s family and friends always know they are in our thoughts and prayers.

He was always a bright and unmissable presence in a room, and I will forever remember all of our fun family adventures together. 6. I am sort of speechless. I met Craig in 5th grade in 1972 and was college roommates at Mizzou engineering. He was also in my wedding. I have not spoken with in years. I am so sad. I was so close to Craig in college and we learned how the universe works together in engineering school. Many deep discussions etc.

I am so sorry .. sad
