Adele Major

In Loving Memory

Major, Adele Marie (nee Hessi)

July 25, 1952 - August 23, 2024

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on August 23, 2024.

Beloved wife of Robert W. Major, Sr.  Loving mother of Angie (nee Major) Chris Donjon, Tom (Jacque) Major, Dr. Robert Major, Jr. (Dr. Catherine Radakovic), Marie (nee Major) late Harold Rantz; loving sister of Patti (Dennis) Augustyniak, Louise (Patrick) Conroy, Marie (Tom) McCloskey, and late Bill (Beth nee Davis) Hessi. Marvelous Mar Mar of Nolan and Samantha Donjon, Robert III and Blaise Major, Joshua and Bethany Major; dear daughter-in-law of Ann and the late William Prasuhn. Our dear aunt, cousin, Godmother, sister-in-law, and friend to many.

Adele lived her life as a humble servant of our Lord. Always the teacher, she led by example educating us how to put God’s words into actions. Adele shined the light of Christ in every part of her life and career. Adele loved her family fiercely and taught them to be Christ for others.

Adele was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended St. Timothy Catholic grade school and Bishop DuBourg High School. Adele graduated from Harris Stowe Teacher’s College. Adele was a Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout merit badge counselor, and assisted with Children’s Liturgy of the Word at St. Timothy Catholic Church.

During her 34 years as a first grade teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes in University City, she created new learning experiences and programs for her students including Science Day, Early American Day, and hatching baby chickens. Adele enjoyed gardening, drinking coffee with her sisters, weekly adoration at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, and attending her grandchildren’s sports and Scouting events. She will always be known for bringing veggie trays to EVERY party and her incredible chocolate chip cookies. Adele loved to host parties and celebrate her family’s milestones, including most recently her 49th Wedding Anniversary with Bob. Adele’s example of love and prayer will remain with us long after her passing and continue to inspire future generations.

SERVICES: Visitation will be at the Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel. 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO 63123 on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (7148 Forsyth Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63105) on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

  5. I am so sad to hear of Adele’s passing. I grew up in and around the Major house (lived down the street and ran with the kids). She was like a second mom, always kind, always lovely. We carpooled to school, played up and down the block with the kids, and spent a lot of very happy memories with her kids, Angie, Rob, Tom, and Marie. She will be missed, and is for sure looking down on us and taking care of us from heaven.

  6. Dear Marie and family. No one has to tell you how special your mom was. When the good Lord shorted her in height he made it up in love, caring, putting others ahead of her needs. This woman is an inspiration to all of us. Love and healing prayers to the family.

  9. Adele was one of the kindest persons I’ve ever known. I can truly say there are only a few people I’ve met who I’ve never heard say an unkind word about anyone – and Adele is one of that very small number! She had a lovely, wholesome soul and I know she will be deeply missed. I feel blessed to have been her friend. My heartfelt sympathy to Bob, their children and her whole family.

  11. I got to know Adele when she started Eucharistic Adoration at St Catherine Laboure every Friday afternoon from 4-5 pm. many years ago. I was the Adoration captain for her hour. She loved Adoration and was very committed to her time. She was always a ray of sunshine. Her loving, caring Christian spirit always shined. I’m sure when she met Our Heavenly Father he said “ Well dine good and faithful servant”.

  12. Adele was a class act. I knew her through the adoration chapel at St. Catherine Laboure, and any conversation with Adele was uplifting, whether talking about her family, students, job or most important to her, the faith. I can’t think of any other person I know who “put on the armor of God” such as she.
My condolences to her precious family.
