Dear Mother of Kathleen (Glenn) Miller and Karen (Brent) Gremillion; dear daughter of the late Daniel J. and Helen M. O’Hare; sister of the late Norine Beckmann and the late Helen C. O’Hare; beloved grandmother of Kim (Matt) Chambers, Glenn Miller Jr., Joshua (Angie) Gremillion, Amy McNeil, Carly (Brandon) Hunter, and Abby (Chris) Kehoe; dear great-grandmother of 11; dear aunt of Barbara, David, and Gary; dear great aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Joan retired from Laclede Gas after 35 years of working in the customer service department. she was a resident of Affton for over 30 years.
Joan was a single mom, back when that was a rarity. She worked two jobs to get her daughters through high school. She was able to buy a red ’66 mustang convertible, forever cementing her as the “Fun Mom”.
She was a devoted bible reader until disease robbed her of that comforting daily pleasure. She was a scripture quoter and a prayer warrior. She is happy to be at home with her family in heaven.
A special thanks to Debbie Hart and the wonderful staff of Mother of Perpetual Help in Shrewsbury who took such great care of Joan during her last few years.
SERVICES: Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Rd., Thursday, July 29, 9:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am. Private interment at St. Paul Churchyard. In lieu of flowers contributions to deGreeff Hospice House appreciated.
Ray came across this obit and asked me if I thought this is the Joan we knew that lived next to us at the condo. I am almost certain it is. I lost contact with her and wished that I still knew how to contact her. You won’t believe this but I still have the soap shaped shells in a basket that she gave us when we moved to this house in our bathroom along with a candle of seashells when we had the house at the lake. Every time I look at them I think of her.
She was a great person and great neighbor. Sorry to read that she was ill. You have our deepest sympathy. Ray and Alice Benner

I will always remember the joy and warmth I felt whenever I was around Great Aunt Joan. She had the best laugh. I’m sure there’s a mad game of Uno happening in heaven right now.

I am so sorry to have only seen this today. Joan was a wonderful and dear friend of my Aunt Connie’s and was such a comfort to her at the end of her life. I have known her since I was a little girl and we used to visit with her and her daughters at their house on Lillian!! Such wonderful memories of them and their pool in their backyard. I know she is truly at peace in Heaven with her friends and family. She was truly an angel!
