Schulze

In Loving Memory

Schulze, Gus W.

September 18, 1973 - January 13, 2025

Gus was born on September 18th, 1973, to William C. Schulze and Phyllis Schultz Schulze in St. Louis, MO. He moved to Florida in 1981, following the death of his father in 1980, with his mom, sister Gretchen Schulze Abbas and brother Toby Schulze. He grew up and lived in the Tampa Bay area, attending Countryside High School in Clearwater, FL where he played football, until moving to Gainesville to attend college at the University of Florida, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He worked at AMC Theaters for 12 years, relocating briefly to Dallas and Orlando, before becoming a teacher for Pinellas County School District in 2001. He moved his family back to St. Louis, MO in 2012 to be closer to his aunts, uncles and cousins, entered the financial industry working for Wells Fargo Advisors and was in the process of completing his MBA.

Gus loved music, going to concerts and sporting events, watching football and participating in multiple fantasy football leagues, and spending as much time as possible with his sons, William Schulze and Henry Schulze. He was a Boy Scout Den Leader, a baseball and soccer coach, and chaperon on field trips. Gus was a member of the Badischer Unterverin of St. Louis, Missouri, as was his grandfather and great grandfather before him.

Gus was predeceased by his father William C. Schulze. He is survived by his sons William Charles Schulze and Henry Gustin Schulze, mother Phyllis Schulze Valentine, sister Gretchen Schulze Abbas, brother-in-law Jamie Abbas and brother Toby Schulze, along with many cousins, uncles and aunts.

  3. Saddened by the news. He was not only my cousin, but a mentor, a wealth of knowledge, and bright light of joy. I never failed to see him smile or bring his overflowing humor and love to a room. A fighter all the way. The world lost a wonderful person. I hope everyone can remember him for his infectious smile and can all heal. Gretchen, Toby, Aunt Phyllis, I offer my prayers at this time.

  4. Very sorry to hear. I am so glad I got to know Gus. One of my favorite employees. Couldn’t wait for him to get to the theater for work because he was always smiling and his positivity was contagious.
I remember the going away party staff threw me and he had it at his house. He was always thinking of others.
    My condolences to the family.

  6. My dear Phyllis, words are so inadequate to express the sadness we all felt when we learned of Gus’s passing. Since we first met you and your family in Palm Harbor Florida we developed a deep connection. Gus was the kindest, sweetest young boy who was always looking after his mom. Your strength during those early years after Bill’s passing was remarkable. My Liz went to school with Gus and they kept in touch. Gretchen and my Anne were inseparable in Florida and their relationship endured during the years we all lived apart in different states. Yes, visits were few, but we are so happy we met William and Henry and had the opportunity to spend time with them. Gus was so joyful, and his spirit was contagious. We grieve with you as we remind ourselves of God’s Word…to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Gus is now in the care of His Heavenly Father and free of all constraints. May the Lord embrace you and the boys with His Enduring Love during this sad time,

  8. Shulzes (as all the students called him) was my math teacher in high school. He is the reason I love math. He was always so helpful and funny. The best times had where in his class. He would always make you laugh, he never forgot a name, and was always so patient. I’m so sorry to the family for your loss. Sending love and light.
