In Loving Memory

Vela, Elsie M.

Elsie M Vela, age 67, unexpectedly departed her loving family in the early hours of April
1st, 2022. She was born to the late Eloy and Juanita Mascarenas in beautiful Colorado
Springs, Colorado on December 28th, 1954. She was the youngest of 8 siblings, an
adored sister, a fun aunt, and a loving resilient single mother. Elsie is survived by her
son Christopher (age 39), daughter Stephanie (31); brother, Jason Mascarenas; sisters,
Corrine Castro, and Rose Cereceres. Her professional career was one of service and
she spent 22 years in academia at her beloved Fox C-6 School district. She was
extremely generous, loving, sweet, and kind. In her free time, Elsie loved to take family
vacations, spend time with her kids, paint, garden, and listen to music. She was the
light of her family, enjoyed nature tremendously, and was a friend to all animals. She
will be greatly missed, in our thoughts every single day, and loved forever. Her spirit
lives on in those that had the honor of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m. 12th of April, at Rockport Elementary
School. A service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.
