Doney

In Loving Memory

Doney, Rebecca S. “Susie”

Susie Doney of St. Louis passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023. She was born Rebecca Sue Dowell to Bobby and Linda (née Furlong) Dowell in Lexington, Kentucky on March 16, 1979.

Since her early childhood on the family farm in Kentucky, Susie had a thorough love for horses, and cared for them dearly. She took every opportunity she found to ride, groom, or even just stand around every horse she knew. Between Woody, Lulu, Zeus, and many more, she will be remembered for her love of nature and the wild spirits of horses.

A skilled and practiced calligrapher, Susie could rarely be found without her pens, inks, or one of her dozens of notebooks full of meticulously rendered word art. Her works will continue to be treasured for their beauty and craftsmanship.

Susie was a generous and compassionate soul. She could not stand to see anyone suffer, friend or stranger. Always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand, Susie will continue to stand as a shining example of the virtues of an open heart to all who remember her kindness.

The role Susie most treasured was as a mother. She was fiercely proud of her daughter and son. They were the reason she was willing to commit so much of her energy to service. It is a great boon to all who will miss Susie that her loving spirit will live on in Skyler and Caleb.

Susie is survived by her daughter Skyler Dowell and her wife Liz Doty, her son Caleb, and her husband Joe. Susie will also be missed by her parents, her siblings Rob Dowell (Alice), Betsy Bagwell (David), Micah Bremner (Steven), Miriam Gough (Orvon), Adam Dowell (Sara), and all their children, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 9th at Kutis funeral home at 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. with a memorial service following at 1:00 P.M.  All are welcome and invited.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to The Gentle Barn in Susie’s memory.
