Mildred Egart passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Mildred had just celebrated her 94th birthday on August 27, 2025.
Beloved wife of the late F. Lamar Egart, who preceded her in death on October 1, 2020. Mildred was a devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and aunt to many, many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her children: Steve (Cindy), Glenn (Debbie, deceased), Claire (Jim) Stiegemeier, Craig (Jean), and Phil (John).
She was cherished by her grandchildren:
Eric Schimweg, Tim (Alli), Mike (Brittany) Schimweg, Redmond (Heather), Chris (Jessica), Samantha, Steve (Sarah), Joe, Ali (Austin) Warren, Katie (Craig) Neece, and Grace;
and her great-grandchildren:
McKenna, Cullen, Charlie, Maddox, Eleanor, Lola, Brooks, Dawson, Colten, Theo, Hadley, Easton, Lenora, Carson, Annelise, Brooklyn, and Xander.
Mildred’s parents were the late Redmond J. and Mary Konsler Carroll of Henderson, Kentucky.
She is also survived by her sisters:
Joyce (Billy Don, deceased) Greenwell of Waverly, Kentucky, Ruth Ann Carroll of Pompton Plains, New Jersey and Mary Julia Carroll (deceased as an infant)
and by her brother- and sisters-in-law:
George (Marietta) Egart of Louisville, Kentucky, Joyce, deceased (Dorris) Collins of Waverly, Kentucky, and Johnny, deceased (Juanita) Egart of Louisville, Kentucky.
Born Mildred Louise Carroll, the eldest of four sisters, she spent her early years in Henderson, Kentucky, where she grew up on a farm riding horses, tending the garden, and helping with daily chores. She graduated from Holy Name High School in Henderson and married Lamar Egart of Waverly, Kentucky in 1955.
In 1960, Mildred and Lamar moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where they raised five children and became active at Most Precious Blood Church and School. They made countless trips back to Kentucky to visit family and friends while building many strong and lasting relationships in St. Louis.
In addition to her role as a devoted wife and mother, Mildred worked at the St. Louis County Library for 25 years, retiring in 1996. Lamar retired in 1992 after a career in outdoor advertising and he continued to pursue his passion for oil painting until his passing.
Together, Mildred and Lamar enjoyed an active retirement—traveling across the country, participating in church events, volunteering as eucharistic ministers at St. Anthony’s Hospital (now Mercy), attending many, many family functions and occasionally attending the Kentucky Derby. In her later years, Mildred resided at Friendship Village Retirement Community, where she continued to form new friendships with the same warmth and grace she had shown throughout her life.
Mildred was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, fiercely devoted to her extended family, and lived her life with enduring love for Lamar and her Kentucky heritage where it all began.
