Rickie Benz 2

In Loving Memory

Benz, Rickie Lee “Rick”

Rickie Lee Benz, affectionately known as “Rick,” of Moro, IL, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the age of 75. He lived his last days in the incredible care of the staff at the Jefferson Barracks VA Memorial Hospital.

Born on November 7, 1949, Rick was a true St. Louis native, born and raised in the heart of Missouri. Following high school, Rick served his country in the Vietnam War, a time of service that left a lasting impact on his life and spirit. He carried both the scars and the strength of a veteran.

For most of his life, Rick’s office was the open highway. He was an accomplished and dedicated big rig truck driver, a job he not only excelled at but deeply loved, embracing the nomadic freedom of the road. His wanderlust led him to find a second home and a community in Virginia City, Nevada, though he was just as happy chasing the bright lights and excitement of Las Vegas, where he enjoyed the thrill of the slot machine or poker.

A man of adventure and unconventional charm, Rick lived life on his own terms. He was a passionate Harley rider, the roar of an engine being music to his ears. At home, he found simple joys in spoiling the foster dogs he cared for, often going out of his way to cook them steaks, and in the unique pleasure of ordering from QVC. He was a master of unconventional solutions and was known for his ability to “always find a way” to get things done. Above all, he found true joy in making people smile each day with his memorable sense of humor.

Rick will be remembered for his fierce independence, his adventurous spirit, the unconditional love he showed his canine companions, and the small, shared moments of humor and joy he created for those around him.

He is survived by his children: Jason Louis Benz, Jennifer Lee Benz-Jankowski (Steven Phillip Jankowski), Jenna Lynn Benz, and Kelly Marie Brandt (Christopher Alan Brandt); his grandchildren: Ethan Nathaniel Jankowski, Lucas Alexander Jankowski, Anna Marie Dean, Harper Rae Brandt, and Atlas Von Wiggin; and finally, his great-grandchild: Autumn Marie Jankowski.
