Stevens, Anne Madeline

Anne Madeline Stevens peacefully passed away on July 25^th 2026 at the age of 95.

She grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland with three brothers and three sisters (Reggie, Ivor, Jimmy, Margaret, “Madeline”, Winnie, and Rosalie).  This was a tough time in history it was during World War II. The family was mostly raised by their mother Margaret Freeman (McKay) because their father George Freeman was called to help fight in the war never to be seen again!

The family called Anne by her middle name: Madeline and that’s the name everybody came to know her by. She started working at an early age and after high school she worked at some of the local stores where she grew up, and went on to be a hard-working woman with multiple jobs at once, from cafeterias, to ice cream shops, to child care, most of her working life was dealing with the public.

One day she came across a job opportunity in the paper as an au pair (nanny) – (only fitting as she loved children), it was not a local job, it was in the land of opportunity, the United States of America. She arrived here on the HMS Queen Elizabeth in the early 50’s. This was a big step for young single lady to take, but her new employers loved her and became life long friends. Sometime after that she moved to Arizona and returned to the food service industry at an elite restaurant where famous people would stop in and eat. This is where she met the love of her life Jerry Stevens whom she married. She returned to Scotland soon after where she had her only child James. As a single parent she raised her child with the help of family and friends while juggling jobs to make ends meet.

After many years of living in Scotland she decided to move to Saint Louis, Missouri to be close to her son James, daughter in-law Cindy, granddaughter Leah, and grandson Scott. Extended later to include great children Kaylin & Kendal Belmann, & Ava Stevens. This is where she spent the rest of her life.

She loved to travel and would often return to the United Kingdom to visit family and friends. She has been a long-time member of the Affton Christian Church on Tesson Ferry Road and Reavis Road where she made lots of friends and joined the choir.

Anywhere she lived would be turned it into a place of beauty with pure work and determination and by cleaning, arranging decorations, pictures and ornaments her home was her paradise. She loved taking pictures, baking, shopping, travelling, walking, scrap booking, visiting friends & family, taking care of the children, and singing in the choir.

Madeline was truly a loving person and was surrounded with love right until the end of her time here on earth. Take your final voyage to heaven my dear mother.

Services:  Visitation at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Road Thursday, July 30, 2026, 1pm until service at 4pm.  Concludes at funeral home.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Affton Christian Church at: inasmuchas.churchtrac.com
