Lois L. Grothman (née Poetker), age 96, passed away August 1, 2026; Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Earl L. Grothman, Sr., dear mother of Kathleen Smith (Jim) and Earl L. Grothman, Jr. (Cindy).
Lois spent most of her life in St Louis, graduating from Southwest High School, along with some commercial art classes at Washington University. Lois lived in El Paso TX while Earl was in the Army. After returning to St Louis, Lois worked in the Art Departments of PET Milk, Bridal Originals, and Winkler Advertising before heading out on her own to start a small advertising art studio (Lois Grothman Advertising Art), which she continued until the late 1980’s.
With family and friends, she enjoyed years of trips to Lake Norfolk, AR camping, boating, waterskiing & fishing.
In retirement she and Earl Sr. enjoyed numerous international and domestic trips. She also spent many years collecting antiques & attending theater performances at Stages St. Louis and in NYC with her daughter Kathie.
The family is thankful for the compassionate care she received at Lake Minnetonka Shores in Minnesota and Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, as well as recent care from Breeze Hospice.
