Sheldon Amos Wight III, 75, of St. Louis, MO passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by family on June 16, 2019.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel in St. Louis, MO. Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 21, 2019 at Eureka United Methodist Church in Eureka, MO at 8:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Sheldon was born on January 7, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Amos Wight and Madeline Pry Wight. He was an only child. His family moved back to Nevada, MO in 1945 where he graduated from Nevada High School in 1962. He attended college at Southwest Missouri University and Baker University until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966. He served in the Marines until he was honorably discharged in 1968. Following his discharge he completed his Bachelor of Art degree at Baker University and later earned a Masters of Arts degree at Webster University in 1975.
On August 23, 1969, he married Trudy Anne Morrison at Trinity Lutheran Church in Overland Park, Kansas. Together they had two children, Anne Michelle (Wight) Pellegrino of Fenton, MO and Sarah Adele (Wight) Schmanke of Eureka, MO. His wife, two daughters, two sons-in-law Michael Pellegrino and Paul Schmanke, and five grandchildren Alyssa and Ainsley Pellegrino and Reed, Grant and Adelyn Schmanke survive Sheldon.
Sheldon joined the City of St. Louis Police Department as a police officer in 1972 and proudly served as a member of the Department until his retirement in 2004. During his lifetime Sheldon earned a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying, distance running, biking, traveling, playing guitar and singing. He loved spending time with family and friends. His greatest joy was his grandchildren.
