Dorothy-J.-Smith

In Loving Memory

Dorothy J. (“Jean”) Smith

Passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2019 at home in Crestwood, MO. Jean was born in Danville, IN on February 4, 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip A. Smith, in 2002; in addition to her parents and 12 siblings. Jean is survived by sons Daniel A. Smith (Gina) of Sunnyvale, CA and Timothy L. Smith (Barbara) of St. Louis, MO. She took great pride in her grand-daughter, Anna R. Smith, of St. Louis, MO. Jean is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews as well as great-great nieces/nephews.

Jean was the valedictorian of her high school class in Galion, OH. To the delight of her family, she often expressed her unexpected, dry sense of humor. Along with her husband Philip, Jean retired in 1986 after working over 20 years in the Catalog Department of Sears in Crestwood Plaza.

She and Philip enjoyed traveling, birding and morning walks at St. Louis County, Lone Elk Park in addition to their Friday night date nights. During her later years of retirement, Jean enjoyed family gatherings, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and watching Jeopardy.

She had a soft-spoken, gentle nature about her until the day she left this earth. Jean will be deeply missed by her family, friends and long-time neighbors. A private, family celebration of life will take place on September 17, 2019. Should family or friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of their choice.
