(Joe) died peacefully
September 6, 2018, at
age 91. He is survived by his children Michael (Alexis), Cynthia Bante Cluff and Joseph T. (Mary); grandchildren Joseph M. and Christine Bante, Thomas, Daniel, and Sarah Cluff, Henry and Owen Bante and a large extended family (including first cousin Joe Weiss). Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Alice Jayne Bante (Doherty).
He was born and raised in Dogtown, the son of Eva Marie and Henry Bante. Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in business from St. Louis University (1949), where he met Alice (on the Lindell bus). He was proud, but humble, about his Coast Guard service in WWII as Seaman First Class.
He was known in business and life as generous and honest. He loved Cardinal baseball. He was a devoted husband and father, and relished his grandchildren. He was a great enthusiast of amateur sports, and touched many as coach (both on and off the field), official, referee and fan.
Services: Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 676 W. Lockwood, Webster Groves. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday, September 14 at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road, Affton 63123. Memorials may be made to Gateway Chapter Paralyzed Veterans of America,1311 Lindbergh Plaza Center, St. Louis, MO 63132.
