Age 93, baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection; entered into heavenly life on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Dear son of the late Clayton and Adele (Schmidt) Cary, Sr; inseparable brother of the late Clayton (the late Sadie) Cary, Jr; beloved husband of the late Doris (Jennings) Cary; treasured uncle of Clay (Maureen) Cary lll and Linda Cary Hinshaw; dear great uncle to Clay lV, John and Elizabeth Cary, Emily and Erin Hinshaw.
Blessed with a “bonus family” through his beloved Dodie, Jack was loving stepfather to Michael Crane (Christina Licata) and Patti King (the late Pat); proud “Pawpaw” to Benjamin (Leigh) Crane and William Crane, Dr. Sarah King-Glotfelty (Jeffrey) and Bobby King (Nikki); enthusiastic “GG Paw” to Marlowe Crane, Patrick and Paige Glotfelty.

Jack grew up in Saint Philip Neri parish in north St. Louis. Dubbed with the nickname “Coogie” as a child due to his resemblance to young actor, Jackie Coogan, he was separated by only 13 months from his big brother, Clay, Jr.  Together, they led their parish baseball team to the CYC city championship in 1942. Jack also excelled in soccer and softball. He graduated from St. Louis University High School in 1947 and went on to attend both St. Louis University and Harris Stowe College. He proudly served for two years in the United States Army while stationed in Schwetzingen, Germany.
Partner/owner of Shehan-Cary Lumber Co. for over 40 years, “Coogie” will be fondly remembered for his fun-loving nature and his great love for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Kidney Fund or the Missouri Humane Society.

Memorial visitation at St Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church (1420 Sappington Rd. 63126) on Thursday July 20 9:30 AM until memorial mass at 10:30 AM. Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery. A service of KUTIS AFFTON Chapel.
