In Loving Memory

Fitzgerald, Joan H. (nee O’Neil)

February 16, 1948 - November 10, 2024

“With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joan Fitzgerald, who left us on November 10, 2024 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Joan’s warmth, humor, and zest for life enriched the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Fitzgerald, and her four children: Christian Ferris, Dana Ferraro, Joe Ferris, and Cat Franke. She also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren, each of whom she adored with all her heart: Nina and Jack Ferris, John, Joe and Greg Ferraro, Noelle and Madelyn Franke, and Isabella Ferris.

Joan was a grandmother who knew how to make memories magical. She created costumes by hand for her children and grandchildren. She laughed easily, finding joy in the little moments and sharing her wit and humor freely. Her home, too, reflected her love for nature, where she enjoyed watching the deer that visited her backyard.

An adventurer at heart, Joan loved to travel. She had a fondness for airports, finding excitement in simply sitting there, absorbing the energy of people coming and going, always ready for her next journey. Despite the challenges of her illness, Joan approached her many hospital stays with grace, finding comfort and connection there.

Joan’s legacy of love, laughter, and resilience lives on in her family. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain a source of inspiration and joy to those who knew her.

Roadside services to be held at Jefferson Barracks on Monday, November 18 at 1:45 pm.
