Jake James passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the age of 37. Born on September 5, 1986, Jake’s life was a brilliant constellation of love, laughter, and an unyielding passion for all things STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
Jake is survived by his wife, Carla James; his father, Jeff James, and stepmother, Angie James; his sister, Heather Rose James, and her partner, Maia Rodman, his stepbrother Brandon Clinton and his family; his mother-in-law, Teresa Foss; and his sisters-in-law, DJ Foss, Krissy Foss, and Jessica Foss. He was also a cherished uncle to his Foss nieces: Meagan, Miley, McKenna, Amellia, Jayden, and Lillian. Jake was predeceased by his mother, Denise Rose Tullock; his father-in-law, Carl Foss; and his niece, Madison Foss. Furthermore, Jake was an admired grandson, a beloved nephew to numerous aunts and uncles, a close cousin to many, and a treasured friend to countless individuals. Jake cultivated and nurtured many close relationships. Family, friends, and fostering connections were of paramount importance to him.
Jake’s life was a testament to brilliance wrapped in humility. He was an accomplished engineer and a dedicated full-time student, just a few steps away from obtaining his BS. Jake was over the moon about completing his degree and had recently launched his own LLC. With the same excitement, he looked forward to becoming TikTok famous, aspiring to inspire others to explore and love STEM.
A polymath in the truest sense, Jake excelled at everything he touched. He was a creative genius, a talented musician, and an avid hobbyist who constantly tinkered and learned until he achieved mastery. His quick, clever wit could lighten any mood, and his humor reflected a mind that was as sharp as it was kind. Jake was the life of every party, infusing joy and laughter into every gathering. A go-getter through and through, Jake had grand dreams and even grander goals. He always had a solid plan and a strategy to bring them to fruition. He worked hard and played even harder. Jake had an incredible ability to make life feel achievable, inspiring others to pursue their dreams and deepest desires.
His love for travel and adventure was matched only by his insatiable curiosity. Ask Jake anything, and he would have an answer. If not, he would dive into research and be sure to report his findings, usually along with a fascinating side story. He detested small talk and relished deep philosophical conversations. Ever the master of bluffing, Jake enjoyed spinning elaborate tales to see just how much he could make you believe, all with a little twinkle in his eye.
Jake’s personality shined brightly, his vibrant and radiant light leaving an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. Whether you knew him for five minutes or a lifetime, his impact was profound and enduring, creating ripples that extend far beyond his immediate circle. His laughter, though often more of a chuckle, was infectious and genuine. Jake was a man of integrity, always operating from a place of ethics and honesty. He spoke passionately about wanting to leave a legacy, and in living authentically, he did just that. His generosity and love knew no bounds, and his profound thoughts often seemed otherworldly.
In honor of Jake’s remarkable life, there will be a celebration of life held on July 20th at the Meridian Masonic Temple between the hours of 2 and 7 PM. The address is 4500 Donovan Ave, St. Louis, MO 63109. Please use the main front doors to enter.
Rather than flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Jake’s memory to Mikecroscope, his dear colleague and favorite science communicator. For those preferring cash or checks, please make them payable to Heather Rose James, who will ensure they are forwarded to Mikecroscope. Your contributions will help continue Jake’s legacy of fostering a love for science.
