November 28, 1965 - April 11, 2025

Steven Gerard Mains (59) died on April 11, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on November 28, 1965, in Belleville, Illinois, to Denyse and the late John D. Mains. Steve was the youngest of six siblings and was often referred to as “Bay”.

Steve was an avid horse racing enthusiast and enjoyed the sport of kings for over 40 years. He took pride in his tomato garden and was a lifelong fan of KSHE 95 rock radio. Steve maintained his close friendships and valued those relationships. He lived the last 16 years of his life in Affton Missouri.

Steve is survived by his mother, Denyse Mains, his siblings: Michele Behan (Don), Mike Mains, Ken Mains (Karen), and his nieces and nephews, Michelle, Christine, Mark, Kimberly, Stephanie, Brandon, Thomas, Rachel, Sam and Sophie. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Mark, and nephew Patrick.

A private ceremony will be held at Sacred Heart cemetery at noon on April 18, 2025.

  1. I will always remember you as the “fun” Uncle . Pat and I loved when you took us for joy rides in your car when we were little. (And took us to buy fireworks… lol) . Despite all you were going through, you never failed to send us a Christmas card, and think of us every year. May you rest in peace, Uncle Steve.

  4. Steve, we will miss you so! You were always in our prayers. I sure will miss you on Derby day It was so much fun going over the entries and getting your opinion! you were one of my favorites when you came to our house in Paddock and thanks for remembering us at Christmas! RIP sweet Steve

  5. I’ll miss you so much, my baby brother (Bay). We gave you that nickname because it was easier for us kids to say, “Where’s Bay?” rather than “Where’s the baby?” The nickname stuck and you didn’t even know its origin until I told you just a few years ago! We have so many happy memories that I’ll hold on to, including when you briefly lived in Virginia and visited us for Thanksgiving when we lived in the adjacent state of Maryland. You are truly one of a kind. I’m looking forward to seeing your smiling face and hearing your laugh when we meet again in Heaven.
