  1. Delberta was a joy. She would come by the front desk and always share a smile and a kind word. May she rest in heaven in inexplicable joy.

  2. Few things are harder than the loss of a parent. Even when we know the end is coming, we aren’t still fully prepared for the loss — how much we will miss simple things like a hug, a joke, or a smile. How many times do I still think, I need to tell Mom or Dad about something I read, only to remember that I can’t? But none of those things are truly gone as long as we remember and share our memories with family and friends, we smile when we hear favorite songs, or we laugh when we mess up a beloved dish. (Mom’s oyster dressing is still a mystery; apparently, she never fully followed the recipe, instead relying on taste and the “look” of the mix in the pan!) It was so good to talk with Twila this last weekend, sharing stories about Mom, Dad, and Aunt Delberta, not to mention laughing over the photos Twila emailed. Take comfort in each other and in those stories and memories, and in the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who share a physical feature, a trait, or mannerism that you recognize as Aunt Delberta’s. Keeping you all in my thoughts, Tonya

  3. As a little girl, I always thought that Aunt Delberta was one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen. I adored her red hair piled up high on top of her head–I thought she looked soooooooo sophisticated! Despite a life filled with many hardships, Aunt Delberta worked hard to take care of her children; yet somehow she maintained a hilarious sense of humor. Rest in peace, Aunt Delberta.
