  3. Mr. Newton was a great man! I always enjoyed seeing him at Todd’s events or running into him around town. Whenever I did see him, he would always, without fail, acknowledge me as “Studog”! ☺️Always treated me with great respect!!

  6. Sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I haven’t seen Jim for a number of years. Ken Johnston informed me about the sad news. Knew Jim, going back to the Tower Grove Baptist years,.. long ago. Thoughts and prayers to Anne, and the entire family.

  8. Just learned of “Newt’s” passing – Jim was a fellow umpire in the Great St. Louis Association of Umpires and served as our president for two terms, later being elected to the GSLAU Hall of Fame. He was an outstanding umpire and leader for our organization. In his younger day Jim worked pro ball in the minor leagues including the prestigious Florida League.
He was unflappable on the field and off, an outstanding human being and a wonderful man. “I’ve got the next plate, Jim!”
