Portell, James Earl

 

James Earl Portell peacefully passed away January 11, 2017 at Mercy Hospital – Jefferson in Festus, MO. He was born December 15, 1945 in New Madrid County, MO to Donald and Helen Portell.  He grew up in the Potosi, MO area and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy. His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him the National Defense Service Award and the Vietnam Service Award. He is remembered for his love of football, racing, classic cars, barbecuing, and almost any activity with family, friends, and especially those with his son. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers Patrick and Michael. He is survived by the mother of his son, Connie Orr; son, Michael (Jasmina); grandson Gabriel; sister, Karen (Charles) Bailey; brothers Dale (Fran), Steve (JoAnn), Dennis, Derril (Phyliss), John, David (Karen), and Joseph; along with a long list of nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. Public visitation at Kutis Funeral Home 5525 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO. Visitation to be held Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 4-8pm. Funeral service will also be at Kutis on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 1pm with interment following the service at Jefferson Barracks.
