Norma was that special neighbor who would park in front of our home many times. When asked if I could help her she responded, “I just like watching your children play…and I like your dog.” After that Norma had a “cookie” waiting for each of our dogs as we passed her house on our daily walks and when taking her food, her daily newspaper, and checking on her needs. She named my husband and me her “honorary son” and “honorary daughter.” So began our decades of Norma celebrating our children’s weddings and grandchildren then meeting or directing her every spiritual, social, and physical need, at her directions through thick and thin. We’d ask her opinions. Her sage advice was often shrewd and surprising. Norma showed us many photos and loved her chocolate Ted Drews frozen custard.
We’re deeply grateful for her friend, Linda, who lovingly coordinated with us covering visits so that Norma had eyes laid on celebrating birthday after birthday.
We’re grateful for her hairdresser, Carla, for the over 30 years of loving service to meet Norma’s perfection. 😉
We’re grateful for Bartolino’s Restaurant for making Norma feel so special when she held her right hand up for attention… many years.
We’re especially grateful to Pathways Hospice and Eileen on the front lines helping her “Little Norma” and making suggestions as to how she could make Norma safer and more comfortable.
Ladies, your jewel for your Heavenly Crown awaits. It has been our privilege to be a part of this supportive Christian Team Norma.
Norma and I were friends for almost 20 years. We met when she and a friend were eating at a fish fry at Assumption Church. My Dad worked at these fish fries. He knew both Norma and her friend, so he introduced them to me. Norma and my Dad’s brother had been dating when they were juniors or seniors in high school. Unfortunately, my Dad’s brother was killed in a car accident when he was nineteen. Norma eventually married someone else. Even though Norma was older than me, we soon became friends. She treated me as a daughter she never had. We ate out together when we were able. She was very kind to me, buying me many gifts through the years. I shall never forget her. She was a special lady.
