In Loving Memory

Sullivan, Daniel J.

Daniel (Dan) J Sullivan, Jr passed away November 16, 2024, with Sacraments of Holy Mother the Church and surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Mary Elizabeth (nee Young), his children Mary (Michelle), Bryan (Amanda), John (Jeanne), and Brandon; his grandchildren Colin, McKenzie, and Kayleigh; his sister Rosemary Smiley. He is proceeded in death by his father Daniel J Sullivan, Sr, mother Rosemary Sullivan (nee Mulcahy), brothers David and Jerome Sullivan, and sister in law Marcella Young. He was a beloved husband, father, papa, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend and teacher.

Dan taught shop and construction trades at Special School District in St. Louis County at various locations. He spent the later part of his career with the district as a Vocational Evaluator. Many teachers told the family that Dan worked well with students that others found difficult.  He enjoyed fishing with family, cooking with grandkids and telling stories. In fact, his sentiment to the family was to continue “telling stories”.   Dan was always a teacher to everyone. He wanted family to excel in all that they do. He taught children and grandchildren to fish. He coached daughter Mary’s baseball team with her friends.  He was assistant pack leader for Bryan and his friends. He loved to spend time with Brandon and John with woodworking or home repair projects.  He was known for his rocking horses, homemade picture frames and various wooden toys. His grandkids Colin, McKenzie and Kayleigh, were the “apples of his eye”, teasing, reading books and teaching them to enjoy cooking and stories.

Dan loved to road trip, sometimes it was a 4000 mile trip to Canadian Maritimes to eat fresh fish and mussels or to the Canadian Rockies to explore and walk trails in the woods to experience wolves and bears.  He loved family time with cousins in Ireland; having high tea in his great-grandfather’s house. In 2016, he took wife Mary on the trip of a life time to her beloved Paris and Monet’s gardens.

Our family would like to send many thanks to the Barnes critical care ICU as well as the teams of heart failure and pulmonology doctors and nurses who worked so hard to care for Dan.

Services for Dan will be held at St. Simon’s Catholic Church, 11011 Mueller Rd., St. Louis MO. Visitation is on Saturday, November 30, from 8-10 am with Mass following at 10:00 a.m. at the Church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or the Multiple Sclerosis Society. 1. Thank you Mary for sending this to us. The annual visits of the St Louis Sullivans to Cleveland are some of my favorite childhood memories of my cousins, Rosie, Dan and David. Dan was the instigator of many fun games and tricks. So much fun! Wish we could have lived closer in later years. Rest in Peace, Danny. Love from Baltimore.

I will be praying for you and your family during this season in your lives.
