Wegmann, Thomas Aloysius

Thomas Aloysius Wegmann, 95, passed away November 18th, 2024.  Tom was born on Sunday, July 28, 1929 in his childhood home at 3133 Tamm Avenue. Tom was the second of three children born to Leo and Antoinette “Nettie” (Wilmes) Wegmann.  Tom was preceded in death by his wife Sally, his parents, his daughter in law Barbie (Deitchman) Wegmann, his sister Fern (Gilbert) Hunt and his grandson, William Wegmann.

Tom attended Southwest High School and later enlisted in the Navy, serving on a Minesweeper out of Norfolk, Virginia and an Icebreaker out of Brooklyn, New York. Tom was a lifelong member of The Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 36. Beginning his career as an apprentice and journeyman, he quickly became foreman and ultimately, lead project estimator. Tom continued working in the Commercial HVAC Industry into his 80’s.

Tom married the love and light of his life, Sally Shannon Huff on December 22, 1951.  Tom was a devoted husband and father, a kind, strong, humble, hardworking, selfless husband and father who enjoyed a wide circle of friends and family all his life.  Tom and Sally were married for 49 years and raised 6 kids.  Their home was always a gathering place for family and friends, their children’s friends, and later, their kids and herd of grandkids at birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Tom had 3 great loves; his wife Sally, his children and grandchildren, and golf.  Tom was an avid and accomplished golfer, regularly scoring in the 70’s and having 4 holes-in-one to his credit. Tom loved and played the game into his late 80’s, sharing his love of the game with his four sons who all play, as well as many of his grandsons and granddaughters.  Tom enjoyed playing and watching many sports, reading, history and biographies.  Later in life, Tom enjoyed game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, regularly beating his kids to the answers.  Tom is remembered for his deep love for his family, as a loyal and trustworthy friend and his enduring joy in life’s simple pleasures.

Tom is survived by his six children, Mike Wegmann, Mark (Wendy) Wegmann, Michelle Wegmann, Matthew S. Wegmann, Mary (Eric) Thoelke and Mitch (Carla) Wegmann. Tom is also survived by his brother, Jim (Mary) Wegmann as well as 29 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Tom’s 29 surviving grandchildren are Matthew R. Wegmann (Amy), Julia Irvine (Andy), Jack Wegmann (Katy), Phoebe Wegmann, Morgan Hummel, Christy Hornacek, Mark E. Wegmann, Myles Wegmann,  Robert Pfaff (Mari), Matthew Pfaff, Zachary Wegmann (Katie), Becky Keim (Brian), Miriam Blevins (Jeff), Alex Wegmann, Gabe Wegmann (Colleen), Xavier Wegmann, Isaiah Wegmann, Matthias Wegmann (Mary), Adrianna Skidmore (Cole), Julianne Wegmann, Katie Holyoke (Eric), Justin Peer (Natasha), Emma Dodds (Andrew), Erin Lorre’ (Clayton), Alekzander Wegmann (Lindsey), Reilly Brynildsen (Matt), Mackenzie Vega (Jordan), Cole Wegmann and Abbey Wegmann.

Tom’s 30 surviving great-grandchildren are Marlowe and Wren Wegmann and Lenora Irvine.  Anna, Megan and Stephen Hornacek and Thomas, Maclan and Ledger Wegmann.  Gavin, Logan and Mileena Pfaff.  Winnie and Jude Wegmann, Cooper Keim, Braxton Wegmann and Jane Wegmann.  Madi, Lily and Vivian Holyoke, Ari Murray and Skylar Peer.  Reece, Gwen and Owen Wegmann, Isaac, Olivia, Selah and Eleanor Brynildsen and Shiloh Wegmann.  Four more great-grandchildren are expected shortly.

The family would like to thank Tom’s attentive staff of caretakers at Mattis Pointe for their kind assistance and steadfast support of Tom over the last 2½ years. A special thanks to our sister Michelle for the care she gave Dad for several years before he lived at Mattis Pointe.  We are all very grateful to Michelle.

Friends and Family are invited to gather at Kutis Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road on Tuesday, November 26th at 12 noon.  A eulogy and short service will begin at 12:30 pm at Kutis. A private graveside service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will follow.   In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

  1. My condolences to the Wegmann family. Tom’s death long life and large family is a testament to his integrity and his love for Sally and his love of life. He will be missed.

    You men were lucky to have Tom as your father and grandfather in your life for such a long time.. What a gentleman in every sense.

  3. My love goes out to this amazing family. Tom was near and dear to me, and will be in my heart forever. I am so blessed to say he is apart of my Mattis Pointe family, and will truly be missed.
