E. Tarry Wood

In Loving Memory

Wood, E. Tarry

July 27, 1937 - October 4, 2024

Passed away peacefully at home at the age of 87 on Friday, October 4th, 2024.

Beloved husband of 64 years to the late Carol Wood (nee Mannshardt); devoted father of John (Erika) and Ted (Michele) Wood; adoring grandfather of Lauren, Camden, Carson, and Parker Wood; cherished great grandfather of Mia Wood; loving brother of Carolyn (the late Chuck) Holmgren and Elizabeth (Timothy) Hepp; dearest son of the late Edwin and Jean Wood; our dear uncle, great uncle, and friend to many.

Tarry lived most of his life in St. Louis.  He was a 1955 graduate of Kirkwood High School.  After high school he studied Architectural Engineering at Washington University.  He started his career working for Don Biggs Company managing and designing home improvement projects.  He then went to work for Central Hardware managing the home modernization department at several of their St. Louis stores.  He was promoted to upper management and stayed with Central Hardware until they went out of business.  He then went to work for Dalco Home Remodeling where he finally retired.

Tarry enjoyed spending his time with family and friends.  He enjoyed time outdoors and taking long walks with his beloved wife.  He took great pride in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, interests and accomplishments.  He always enjoyed working on all types of home improvement projects.  He was always willing and loved helping others with their projects.  He was a regular volunteer at the St. Lucas United Church of Christ.  His generosity, kindness, humor and friendly smile will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to The Friendship Foundation (12563 Village Circle Drive, Sunset Hills, MO 63127) are greatly appreciated.

SERVICES: Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM, with a memorial service at 3:00 PM at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd., 63123). Inurnment at St. Lucas U.C.C. Cemetery
