Brendel 1

In Loving Memory

Brendel, Nina A. (nee Fleahman)

August 1, 1929 - June 17, 2025

Nina A. Brendel, age 95, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025.

Born in Jonesburg, Missouri, on August 1, 1929, Nina moved to St. Louis as a young adult and made it her lifelong home. She dedicated her career to nursing at Deaconess Hospital, where her gentle care, quiet strength, and deep compassion touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues.

Nina was married to the love of her life, the late Paul R. Brendel, for over 60 years. Together, they built a strong and loving family and raised three children: Bob Brendel (Martha), Barb Dreyer (Allan), and Bill Brendel (Cathie). She was a proud grandmother to Blake and Dan Dreyer, Bo, Cole, and Rose Brendel, and Ben, Anthony, and Emily Brendel—and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren.

A woman of deep faith, Nina was a devoted and active member of St. Thomas/Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. She served in many ministries throughout the years and was especially proud of her work as a Stephen Minister, offering emotional and spiritual support with grace, empathy, and kindness.

Nina was also known for her extraordinary talent in the kitchen. Her delicious meals brought people together and made everyone feel at home—whether it was a comforting supper or a festive holiday feast, her love was always the secret ingredient.

She will be remembered for her generous heart, quiet resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and community.

A funeral service will be held at a later date at St. Thomas / Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nina’s memory to St. Thomas/Holy Spirit Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

  1. I was still a child when I met Nina during her visit to Germany. That was many years ago. She struck me as a fine lady in the best sense of the word. And I remember her smile, which radiated so much warmth and kindness. I’m sorry for your loss. I wish you many stars of beautiful memories in all the darkness of grief. May God be with you and grant you comfort in your pain. There will be a reunion…
