Gerald Bast

In Loving Memory

Bast, Gerald Lee “Jerry”

Gerald “Jerry” Lee Bast, 87, peacefully passed away at his home in Arnold, Missouri July 29th, 2025, with his wife Linda Bast accompanying him to rest.

Gerald was born September 30th, 1937 in St.Louis, Missouri to Benedict and Bessie (Hodge) Bast.

Gerald was an engineer for the U.S Army Reserve as well as a proud pipefitter of the UA Local 562, where he committed most of his career

He married his charming wife Linda Bast in 1957 and they spent 67 wonderful years together. He was spoiled endlessly with love and care and showed a love like no other towards Linda.

Gerald loved to spend time with his wife, kids, and grandchildren. He enjoyed projects like building homes for his children, an ice skating rink, swimming pool, and many other things. He always had plans for the next big project. He was an excellent gardener and nature was his happy place. He would love to plant all types of things in a red solo cup. He was a natural comedian and loved to make others laugh. Some of his favorite places to go were Black River Lodge, square dancing, spending time out with the club, the hardware store, and anywhere he could drive his hoveround.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Linda Bast, his children; Deborah Rosenberg (James Rosenberg), Gregory Bast (Janet Bast), and Cynthia Hernandez; his grandchildren, Amande Fujarte, Zachary Youngblood, Lance Schroeter (Amy Schroeter), Tessa Rosenberg, Jeremy Bast, Brian Bast, his great grandchildren; Fransisco Youngblood, Guadalupe Fujarte, Isabella Fujarte, Rosalinda Fujarte, Gabriella Fujarte, Samuel Fujarte, Sofia Fujarte, Thomas Schroeter, and great-great grandchildren; Matthias Youngblood, Aurora Youngblood, and his brother; James Bast and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Benedict Bast and Bessie (Hodge) Bast, his brother: Melvin Bast, and his son-in-law; Jorge Hernandez.

We welcome family and friends to a service held at Kutis Funeral Home 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, St.Louis, Missouri, 63129 on August 1st, 2025 from 4pm-8pm. As well as a service at South County Church of the Nazarene 2500 Telegraph Road, St.Louis, Missouri, 63125 August 2nd, 2025 starting at 11am.

  2. Jerry was always positive, cheerful and engaging. I was amazed with his knowledge of trees & plants and a variety of other subjects. When I was a young kid, he asked me to watch him eat an apple. I did and he proceded to eat the entire apple (core & all). I had never seen anyone do that (before or since that time). I will miss Jerry. My condolences goes out to everyone in his family.
