Mary, a gentle soul loved by many, passed away peacefully at Pine Grove Manor Nursing Home under hospice care on September 16, 2026. Born in Germany on June 15, 1949 to Stefan and Maria Kirchner, she moved to the United States with her family at the age of 2, then spent a few years in upstate New York before settling in St. Louis, MO.
Mary worked primarily as a hairdresser and beautician. She was well-known for her generosity, often donating her time and talents to provide haircuts for friends and family. In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as spending time with family and friends, listening to music, attending concerts and shows, and watching TV and movies. Her warmth and thoughtfulness were her most treasured qualities, touching the hearts of everyone she met.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Stefan and Maria Kirchner, her brother Stephan Kirchner and wife MaryAnn (Sommers) Kirchner, her brother John Kirchner, and her sister Elizabeth (Kirchner) Whitmore and husband Michael Whitmore. She is survived by her brother, Frank Kirchner, her sisters-in-law Linda Kirchner and Ruth Ann Payne, and her son, Stephen Kirchner and wife Cassandra Kirchner.
A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on September 26, 2026 at Kutis Funeral Home (City Chapel), located at 2906 Gravois Ave., St. Louis, MO 63118. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, with the memorial service starting at 2:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a life filled with love and laughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to the American Stroke Foundation (www.americanstroke.org). The family also wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Pine Grove Manor Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care during Mary’s final days. Their support provided comfort to Mary and her family during this difficult time.
Mary’s legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
