In Loving Memory

Robinson, Robert Wayne

February 15, 1938 - September 28, 2026

Robert Wayne Robinson, affectionately known as Wayne, was born on February 15, 1938, in Lilbourn, New Madrid County, Missouri, to Luke and Myrtle Robinson. He passed away at home surrounded by family on September 28, 2026.

Wayne was the son of a sharecropper and grew up learning the meaning of hard work as he and his brothers spent a lot of time picking cotton in the fields of southeast Missouri. At about the age of 14, Wayne’s family moved to the city of St Louis where he attended Central High School and graduated in 1955.

In 1959, Wayne answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. He served from 1959 to 1965, rising to the rank of staff sergeant. His military service was a reflection of the dedication, discipline, and commitment that characterized his life.

On November 3, 1962, Wayne married the love of his life, Joyce, whom he affectionately called “Jody.”  They made their home in St Louis, settling in Sunset Hills, where they built their home in 1977. That house became the backdrop for nearly five decades of family life, gatherings, laughter, and memories. Wayne and Jody shared 63 years of marriage.

Wayne was a carpenter by trade and built a successful and fulfilling career in this business with Gamble Construction and BSI Constructors. He retired from BSI as a Senior Superintendent in 2000. His fingerprints are all over St.Louis.  He worked at the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis, Washington University Medical Center, Barnes Hospital, Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home, Green Park Nursing home, Japanese Garden at Missouri Botanical Gardens and countless others. He was a member of the Carpenter Union for 62 years.

Wayne was a man of many talents, he could build or repair just about anything but he had an unmatched love of the game of baseball. He especially enjoyed playing the game and was a formidable fast-pitch softball pitcher. Countless hours at the ball fields with great memories and building lifelong friendships.

Wayne was one you can never forget. He loved God. He loved his family, and he loved others. He had a contagious laugh, an  encouraging word, and was a joy to be around. He lived his faith not only through his words but through serving others. He participated in short-term mission trips to Maui, Ecuador, El Salvador, Senegal, and New Mexico, using his time, talents, and willingness to serve wherever he was needed. His faith was an active part of his life, and he found joy in helping others and sharing God’s love with people around him.

Family was an integral part of Wayne’s life. He found great joy in watching his family grow and in being present for the important moments, as well as the everyday ones.

Wayne and Jody were blessed with their children Doug (Tina), Tyler (Carrie) and Mindy (Zach). Wayne took great pride in his family and especially treasured his role as a grandfather. He is survived by his grandchildren, Garrett (Kelsey), Bailey (Johnny),  Luke (Kelsey), Kaitlyn, Megan (Kaleb),  Kyle, Grantley, Carter, and his nine great grandchildren Paisley, Cooper, Hadley, Carson, Harleigh, Haven, Macie, Laramie, and Emerson, as well as nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Luke and Myrtle Robinson, his brothers George (Ruth), Jack, Charles “Micky” (Betty), David (Alene), and his mother-in-law Dorothy Morrow.

Wayne will be deeply missed, but the memories of his contagious laugh, his kindness, his encouraging words, his willingness to help, and his unmistakable presence will remain with all who knew and loved him.
