Caden Robert Moentenich, 20, passed away on September 30, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him beyond measure and a future filled with dreams he was just beginning to pursue.
Born December 21, 2005, Caden was the beloved son of Chad and Becky and a much-loved brother to Kylie and Taryn. He was the center of his father’s universe—Chad’s sidekick, companion, and best friend. Caden was shy and kept his circle small, but when he let someone into his heart, he loved them deeply and fiercely.
Caden was extraordinarily bright, endlessly curious, and happiest when diving deeply into something that fascinated him. As a child, that often meant weather and tornadoes, along with an impressive collection of facts he delighted in dropping into everyday conversation. As he grew older, his interests expanded to web development, photography, food, and, most recently, his greatest passion: aviation.
Caden graduated from Affton High School in 2024 and St. Louis Community College in 2026 with a degree in web development. At the time of his passing, he was working at OfficeMax while seeking his first full-time position as a web developer. His plan was to save for flying lessons and eventually become a commercial pilot. He studied aviation with the newfound intensity, spending countless hours mastering aircraft controls and practicing takeoffs and landings on his flight simulator.
He had also recently discovered photography after receiving a Canon SLR camera from his aunt. On a family trip to Chicago shortly before his passing, he carried it everywhere, capturing photographs of the “L,” the lakefront, and a city he loved exploring.
Caden was funny, with a wit that could be wonderfully goofy or perfectly dry. He and his dad could make each other laugh until they dissolved into giggles. He loved hamburgers, Saturdays at the farmers market, trying new foods, the family dog Waffle, and learning absolutely everything he could about whatever had captured his attention that week.
He was also thoughtful, sensitive, and deeply concerned about the world around him. He believed in kindness and open-mindedness and cared passionately about social causes. He possessed a remarkable ability to understand and articulate his own emotions and, even when his legendary stubborn streak appeared, would often return after reflection with new insight and perspective.
There was so much Caden still wanted to do. His family wanted more time to watch him grow, to see where his brilliant and curious mind would take him, and to watch him become the man he was still becoming.
Twenty years was nowhere near enough.
Caden was smart, funny, curious, sensitive, stubborn, kind, deeply loved, and completely himself. His absence leaves an immeasurable hole in the hearts of those who loved him, and they will carry both their grief and their love for him always.
He was here. He mattered enormously. And he will never, ever be forgotten.
