(nee Spanos) passed away in her sleep December 16, 2020. Beloved wife of 62 years to the late Tom Maleas who preceded her in death May 29, 2020.
Dear mother to her children Athena (Dave) Cornelius, Patricia Maleas (Lynn) Tommy Maleas Jr. Loving grandmother to Nicole (Clayton) Greathouse, Andrea Cornelius, Christopher Cornelius. Adoring great grandmother to Chloe and Paisley Greathouse. A loving aunt and great aunt. Dearest Cousin to Pana Stibich (John) Stephanie Faron (Dr. Mark) and their children. A wonderful friend to so many.
Also preceding her in death are her parents Costa and Martha, brothers George and Telli, sister Chrisanthie and her Uncle Steve Spanos (Effie) who brought her to the United States February 29th 1956. Along with her immediate family, she is survived by her sister Tana and other family members in Greece.
Frieda was born in Vythos, Greece, a mountainous region in West Macedonia October 28, 1929. Her father was the local grocer and would walk miles and miles with his mules to bring supplies back to their village.Frieda lived through WWII in Greece and then immigrated to the United States to start a new life and “eat chocolate!” as she would say!
She was so “proud to be an American.”
Frieda worked hard raising her family, working as a seamstress in the fur business for many years and being “perfect” at everything she touched. Frieda loved to cook for her family, she enjoyed gardening and beautiful flowers, crocheting, and visiting with neighbors. She volunteered her time at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
Frieda’s generous love for her family was only to be matched by her industrious nature. She inspired others through her artistic gifts and talents. She was known for her charismatic smile and her warm, caring personality. Frieda loved people!
She talked to everyone and was the life of every party! She had a spirit and a inner strength that was unmatched. She will be missed by many.
Services: There will be a private family service on Monday, December 21st. At a later date, there will be a memorial celebration.
