Andrew “Drew” Joseph Proehl, son of Joseph Proehl and Jillian Miesen, brother to Lauren (Megan) and John Proehl, passed away at the age of 27 on Saturday, July 8, 2023 in Golden, Colorado.
Growing up, Drew explored the outdoors through Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, participated in sports including soccer, baseball, and basketball and had an enthusiasm for video games that he maintained throughout his life. That enthusiasm led him to travel throughout the country to meet his fellow gamers in person as he grew older. Drew had a passion for music that crossed all genres and artists. He was an excellent cook and loved to try new foods.
After high school, Drew followed many paths of study, including EMT and psychology before finding his calling studying Occupational Safety and Health at the University of Central Missouri. During his college years, Drew took up powerlifting, and his strength grew to match his heart. It was also in college that Drew became Dad to his beloved dog, Jerry. He was proud of the challenges he surpassed and the lessons he learned on the way to completing his Master’s degree.
Drew was living in Colorado and loved being in the mountains on an off-roading trail with friends. He was living his dream and brought laughter and love into the lives of everyone he met. Drew never met a stranger and had the wisdom of an old soul in his short life.
Drew is grandson to Yvonne and the late Walter Proehl, Nancy Miesen, and John Miesen. Nephew to Abby Miesen (Eric Engle), Heather (Miesen) Cox (Tom), Mary (Proehl) Hoffmann, and Terri Johnston (Lee). He is cousin to Donald (Alec), Laurie, Chad (Randy), Kristen (Max), Shallon, Caelin.

Pat & I are so very sorry for your loss. We pray for Drew, for you, and for your family. May God comfort you in this time of sorrow..
To Jill, Lauren and John- Such heartbreaking news I learned from Gary Ujka, who keeps the RSMS family connected to events happening in the lives of former (and still some current) staff members. I can’t imagine the pain and shock of such news. It sounds like Drew died doing something he loved, however, and had accomplished many things in his short life. What a handsome young man he grew into. I am SO very sorry to hear of your tragedy, and hope the Celebration service today was filled with both laughter and tears as you shared unique stories of Drew with one another and enjoyed being outdoors in a place be loved and found peace. You are in my thoughts.
