Callanan, (nee Przetak) Helen Josephine

Helen Josephine (nee Przetak) Callanan passed away peacefully from this life on July 28, 2023 in St. Louis, Missouri at 99 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F.X. Callanan. Loving mother of Timothy (Kathy), Daniel (deceased), Kevin, Patrick (Margaret Clancy), Kathleen, Glennon (deceased) Callanan and Mary (John) Cooley. Dear grandmother of Christy Pogue, Karen Schneider, Amy Wise, Brian, David, Stephen, Sandra & Glennon Callanan, Gregory (deceased), Robbie and Michael Haupt and Matthew, Adam and Jeffrey Cooley.
Helen was born on October 21, 1923 in St. Louis, the youngest daughter of 3 children born to Polish immigrants, Gus and Anna Przetak. She and John were married for 66 years and were blessed with 7 children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Helen was a dedicated stay-at-home mom who learned to cook and sew well for her big family. Over her many years she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, bingo, watching sports on TV and once in a while was known to hit the casinos! For her many years Helen stayed in pretty good health. During the last few years, her health declined somewhat but she always kept a gracious attitude. She was the hospital/rehab patient that staff loved because she called them by name and always expressed her thankfulness and appreciation for their help. Until recently Helen was able to stay in her house of over 60 years and walk down the wedding aisle of her second youngest grandchild. Her memory was still amazingly sharp for living just shy of 100 years. We all enjoyed when she would reminisce and tell stories from the past. Helen will be dearly missed by the many family and friends that loved her.
Services: Funeral at St Raphael Catholic Church on Monday, August 7 at 9:30 AM. Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois on Sunday, August 6 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
